"A Gingrich campaign official prior to the move by the Republican Party of Virginia said the problem is how the rules are set up, arguing that the party is, for apparently the first time, cross-checking the addresses that signature-givers gave against the electronic voter database file for accuracies. A name without a proper address match was tossed, the official said."

WOW!!!
Well, isn’t that interesting!
What exactly does this weasel think he’s going to accomplish here?
Lt. Gov Bolling should be impeached, and/or a recall petition drive should start Monday.
Corrupt POS.
That is a foolish leap of logic, and a bizarre attempt at a conspiracy where none exists. I can guarantee you that Bolling doesn’t control the RPV, if any elected official did it would be McDonald, and he hasn’t endorsed Romney, and in 2008 he was a Thompson man.
Even if you assume the pdf was created on the 21st, the rule wasn’t. That would be when they scanned the letter to put it on their web site.
The letter probably was generated to answer a question. The rule wasn’t created yesterday. I can’t tell you when it was, as it is christmas eve, so sources are not available. But I’m sure RPV understands there are questions, and when christmas is over, they will likely answer the questions.
I’m dissappointed in the wild leaps of fancy that conservatives are willing to make when things don’t go the way they would like. We need to live in the real world, and do the job that needs to be done, and not be sore losers and people who change the rules whenever things don’t work out.
Is this what passes for serious discusion these days? Someone posts the “creation date” of some scanned PDF that was put on a web site, and you want to impeach my Lt. Governor, who is a solid conservative, a good christian, and does a fine job, simply because you speculate that somehow he managed to prevent Gingrich and Perry from getting signatures?
The 15,000 vote rule has been in place. It’s not “new” in the past week. Someone last week even posted that Gingrich was expecting to get to 15,000.
Gingrich screwed up. Perry screwed up. Now they have to deal with it, and there supporters have to accept reality and stop making up false incredible charges.
That is one day AFTER Romney's campaign manager in VA (the Lt. Governor) turned in 16,000.
A Party cannot present rules to its members and change them after the process pursuant to said rules has begun without having committed a fraud. Hence, any Republican voter in Virginia has standing with which to file charges. There are people who should go to jail for this.
Too many coincidences for this not to have been planned. Virginia is Gingrich's home state. No doubt the E assumed this would look terrible for Newt's campaign and that it would destroy it. What the E was not counting on is that conservatives/tea partiers are not just going to lie down and take it. Newt is a fighter. He's not going to just go sulking off. The fact that Perry, Bachmann, Santorum & Huntsman also failed to get the right number of signatures tells us something. Hmmmm, I wonder how many signatures Romney actually submitted and how many were considered ineligible. Not many I bet and not because he's organized. We need to raise hades over this!
“Voters move in between elections!”
True, except VA had a general election last month. We also had a primary in August. Because of intervening redistricting, all registered voters got new Voter ID cards issued in October. My family moved since the last presidential election and our voter registration cards came to the current address. The rolls are pretty up to date.
The leading contender for the nomination will not be on our primary ballot. Something is wrong with our system here in Virginia. I’ve been denied, therefore I’ll have no choice but to vote Paul or stay home. Merry Christmas from Virginia!
Eminently logical.
“All omitted candidates must join- cant be just one. That will leave Romney and the State GOP to argue against inclusion not a great argument when likely 70% of the GOP voters favor other candidates.”
Makes a lot of sense!
Merry CHRISTmas!
This stinks worse than a 5-year unkept barn. I hope the culprits get exposed and horse-whipped.
Sickening ping to #359.
I’m about dumbstruck .. just can’t FReeping believe this, but
I know He who came to us in a lowly stable today IS in charge. God bless us all with His mercy.
He didn’t.
See, you’re doing it, too.
You want to make something up for some kind of political points, okay. But don’t act like you don’t know it’s not the truth.
And conservatves will vote and send money to these New World Order, Big Government socialist republicans....
I’m sorry. There is something wrong with a rule that dictates that if you had only forged 4000 more signatures, you would be on the ballot.
A hard copy letter may have been created AFTER the fact and such is evidence of some dirty dealings however unless there is clear proof that the Original letter was created after the fact then all you have is innuendo. Such things are how Conspiracy Theories are born.
