Santorum Surges
DickMorris.com ^ | Dce 23, 2011 | Dick Morris

In Iowa, there is evidence that Rick Santorum may be surging ahead. In the Tea Party Patriots (TPP) telephone poll of 23,000 supporters nationally, Newt led with 31% of the vote, followed by Bachmann at 28%, Romney at 20% and Santorum with a surprising 16%. But on the ground in Iowa, where it counts, Gingrich has gone through $10 million of negative TV ads sponsored by Romney, Paul, and the others. Without funds to defend himself, he has seen his vote share drop. Ron Paul’s has risen, Bachmann’s has fallen, and Santorum has increased quickly. Gingrich’s and Bachmann’s drop, Cain’s withdrawal, and Perry’s stagnation all contrast sharply with Santorum’s surge. Santorum, whose conservative record is as solid as they come, is benefiting from the fall of Gingrich in a way Bachmann seems unable to do.

Ron Paul remains terrifying. He is really the ultimate liberal in the race. He wants to legalize drugs, repeal the Patriot Act, slash our military spending, pull out of Afghanistan, and remove all limits on abortion. On these issues, he’s way, way to the left of Obama. He would be a disaster as the Republican candidate. His bland assertion in the last debate, that “anyone” will beat Obama is both self-serving and inaccurate. He wouldn’t. Nominating him is tantamount to re-electing Obama.

Most likely now, Romney will win Iowa and go on to win New Hampshire. But then, a kind of buyer’s remorse may set in as Republicans contemplate a nominee who backs Romneycare and once supported abortion choice. His past apostasies, combined with his religion, may give Newt an opportunity to come back in South Carolina. Then the two of them will slug it out down the road. But they may have company in the person of Rick Santorum.

I've said for weeks that Rick Santorum will be the surprise coming out of Iowa.

The only suprise about Santorum concerning Iowa will be ... if he waits more than 24 hours to drop out after his devastating loss there.

Rick Santorum seems like a decent man. I fear Ron Paul actually going anywhere in this - he is scary. Everyone needs to step up those negative ads on Ron Paul - his lunacy needs to be exposed again and again.

Poor Newt. He doesn’t have the money to respond to attack ads and he doesn’t have the organization to get on the ballot in Virginia. Here’s some advice, Newt. If you want to be president, demonstrate that you can organize a campaign and raise money. Otherwise, don’t bother. We don’t want slobs running against Obama.

As this game of musical politicians goes, it’s Rick’s turn to rise.

I would be happy to vote for Santorum. NewtRomney never. Paul is a joke.

Mitt and Paul will stay in the race until the end. Newt bubble peaked already and his amnesty stance and collaboration with libs and attacks against conservatives make him unacceptable.

If Santorum can make it to top-2 in Iowa, he will emerge the conservative option to NewtRomney.

I pray he makes it.

I'm asking this question sincerely, not facetiously: What, in your opinion, would be termed "devastating" Coming in 5th place; or what?

I will enthusiastically support Santorum if he proves he can be a viable candidate.

Herman Cain could have taken control of the campaign by jetting to New York and showing up when they had his first accuser on Good Morning America.

If he had announced that he was there to answer her allegations face to face there would have been an instant gathering around every TV in the nation just like the morning of 9/11. He would have won the hearts and respect of every voter.

(Of course, he would have had to be telling the truth)

Please forgive all my typos in the above. Santorum is due to soar and I wish him well. But underneath it all I am still a Cain woman.

No Santorum, no way.

Then again, I don’t like any of the other wannabes either.

This country is screwed.

To: Paperdoll; All

I might write Herman Cain, but it would NOT be to tell him I want him back in the race. I’d tell him how disappointed I am that he tucked tail and ran and hid behind his wife and God, when he SUPPOSEDLY was innocent of the charges leveled against him. I’d ask him that if he can’t stand up to Gloria Allred and 3 old broads, how will he stand up to China, Iran and North Korea? Then I’d ask him how much of the campaign cash that people gave to his campaign went for hush money to pay off the women we’ve not heard another peep out of.

Yeah; I’ll write Herman. Hell Yeah!!!

Since you don’t like any of them, let me ask you this: If you could pick the next President of the United States, who would it be?

“...and remove all limits on abortion.”

I do not believe that Ron Paul has ever said that restrictions on abortion should be removed.

I think Dick Morris is wrong on this one.
