UPDATE (12.53am): Sources at RPV are telling me that the 2,000 signatures do not have addresses on them meaning that they cannot be verified. Newt Gingrich may very well be off the ticket in Virginia, folks
Rumor has it this evening that one of the petition gatherers was not qualified to circulate petitions which technically disqualifies those signatures in Virginia.
This would mean that the only two campaigns that qualified in the Virginia primary will be Ron Paul and Mitt Romney.
However and theres always a however former State Senator Marty Williams back in 2007 was accused of having a handler circulate petitions to get him on the ballot that was not legally able to do so. The court ruled that, though the petitioner was not legally entitled to circulate the petitions, the enfranchisement of those who did sign the petitions trumped the lack of qualifications the petition gatherer held.
Ergo, even if this report is right, Gingrich will have the names needed to qualify for the Virginia ballot.
If
these reports are true
Don’t worry. Newt did make the ballot. See my post #39.
Governor Perry actually got more signatures than Newt. See my post #39 for the numbers.
Newt did win the necessary signatures: 11,050 signatures. See more numbers and the latest on the Virginia ballot on my post #39.
No, I just read that 2000 of Newt’s signatures were disqualified for lack of addresses. Only Romney and Paul qualified, even though Newt and Perry turned in more than 10,000.
Bump to greeneyes’ comments.
We read the same thing: too many of Newt’s signatures are disqualified for lack of addresses.
Darn. I also read that Virginia doesn’t allow write ins. Do you know if that is true or not?
Newt’s been at every debate. If he’s not on your ‘ballot’ you might want to put him there. Because, after he kicks Romney’s ph0ny conservative ass-followed by Obama’s in November- he won’t forget and neither would I.
After verification, RPV has determined that Newt Gingrich did not submit required 10k signatures and has not qualified for the VA primary.

I don’t know, but I suspect, VA won’t permit write-in votes.
VA will either have to amend or risk looking foolish.
Gingrich and Perry both out in VA, leaving VA to the snake and the lunatic.
Good luck to VA with that.
Merry CHRISTmas!
VA will either have to amend or risk looking foolish.
If I lived in Virginia, I’d be raising a ruckus for sure, and getting everyone I could to do the same.
Yep, I hear you and I would be livid too.
Newt Gingrich is a resident of VA. I suspect he might raise a ruckus.
I think Gingrich and Perry might challenge the verification.
If there’s one thing we need right now, it’s a Hitler Downfall YouTube video of Hitler finding out Newt didn’t get on the Virginia ballot.
Well, I’d be looking for some in the trunk of some ones car. Perry had more signatures than Newt, but they are both out. It just seems awfully coincidental that the establishment candidate now only has to face the weakest opponent.
LOL.
Can barely wait for Gingrich to respond later today; Christmas Eve, no less.
I seriously wonder whether Ron Paul has a security clearance?
The 10,000 registered voters must also include 400 signatures from each of Virginia’s 11 congressional districts.
As to Ron Paul, I am not sure that Clinton or Obama qualified for a security clearance either, but they were still elected.
This world becomes more bizarre by the minute.
GOOD one. Thanks very much.
Romney has been running for this nomination for years.
He’s the one with his followers on the ground and the money.
Merry CHRISTmas, PJ-Also!!!
