It’s not about presents, everyone knows it - it’s about SHOPPING!
Re-gift! Dump the stuff on other suckers!
When I was 3 I played with my Colt revolver. Shot my sister, too. Those were the days.
“There is the problem. No Church, no Bible, and no sacrifice equals their Christmas materialism.”
- My advice to you, being a Swedish Lutheran:
Try and distinguish between the faults you find in certain fellow Christians striving to build happy homes and being a slave to the scriptures.
Without middle class Westerners, this world would be eternally lost.
One of my daughter’s first words was “iPad”.
Isnt it amazing that our generation played Cops N Robbers or Cowboys and Indians
and didnt grow up to be serial killers ???
“One of my daughters first words was iPad.”
- I was born in 1969.
My first word was “Papa”, but my Dad told my mother (who was a ‘modern’ working housewife in the Scandinavian 1970s) it was “Mama”.
My brother was born two years later.
His first word was “toy”.
By today, I author, he twitters, I work for a living, he is a programmer.
I love my brother and so on, but although he’s family it’s like something happened around 1970, the year the Swedish Government declared Swedish standards of living were at par with those of America.
To children born in 1969 and before, toys were toys. To younger generations they are like preparing stages for taking over the Universe.
There are only two years between my brother and I, but we’re worlds apart.
“...being a slave to the scriptures...”
That is a stretch. Scriptures are liberating. Still it is those who take them seriously like Lutheran Dietrich Bonhoeffer that have firm footing. Bonhoeffer was a strict constructionist...while so many of his fellow Lutherans saw no problem with the Nazi restructure of their church. Bonhoeffer’s gave the same advice as I am giving but lived it much closer than I ever have.
However, my point is that scriptures per se are dead language. An interpretation requires a soul which is ready.
The written word can lead to liberation, I won't deny that, but simply put; if it's not in the heart and awareness of an individual, plain letters won't bring about enlightenment of the soul and mind.
“God Jul” is correct.
Merry Christmas from Volvo Land!
Thanks for that Monty Python link.
The “I was poorer than you were” beat goes on,and on,and on.
Pretty funny.
“Ah. How old were you when you first started to roll drunks?”
As soon as we could walk-——the family was well equipped with them.:-)
Memories. Must bring a tear to the eye...
