my copy and paste function is not working. WTH?

I have been configuring a new Win7 PC. I am sort of getting used to Win7, but it is flakey.
A few days ago, I noticed my lower case 'v' had some how become a function that moved the cursor to the top of the screen. The capital V worked fine.
One does not realize how many times one types a certain letter until that letter is no longer available.
I searched to see if some new install had remapped the keyboard -- and was dreading that that might have happened.
Eventually, I succumbed to rebooting. And the problem got corrected.
