A Lesbian couple have become the first to share in the US Navy tradition of the 'first kiss' since the repeal of the American military's "don't ask, don't tell" rule.

Petty Officer 2nd Class Marissa Gaeta of Placerville, California, descended from the USS Oak Hill amphibious landing ship and shared a quick kiss in the rain with her partner, Petty Officer 3rd Class Citlalic Snell of Los Angeles.
Gaeta, 23, wore her Navy dress uniform while Snell, 22, wore a black leather jacket, scarf and blue jeans. The crowd screamed and waved flags around them.
"It's something new, that's for sure," Gaeta told reporters after the kiss. "It's nice to be able to be myself. It's been a long time coming."
For the historical significance of the kiss, there was little to differentiate it from countless others when a Navy ship pulls into its home port following a deployment. Neither the US Navy nor the couple tried to draw attention to what was happening and many onlookers waiting for their loved ones to come off the ship were busy talking among themselves.

They didn’t dock together. They are on different ships. It wasn’t staged anymore than any other ship’s return. It is normal for news teams to be at the pier when ships return.

I think it’s foolish for society to promote barren nests in the name of freedom. But I can see why THIS society doesn’t care. If I were a homosexual AND a conservative, I’d have enough good sense not to mess around with the customs, mores, laws that favor and nurture life.
Sure, it’s so innocent and even attractive (the girls are pretty and one is even “proudly defending” her country)... the perfect photo. A twinky commercial... but the real message is moral misery of the first magnitude. And even THEY know it. There’s no love in LOVE-INS and there’s nothing gay about gay-parades.

They are both in the Navy, on different ships. They held a raffle and she won. The local media is always there when a ship returns from deployment, and someone told the camera team, and here we are.

Sorry, but just a bit too much of a coincidence for me...
I made 2 deployments myself and was in Chas Nav Sta many times when ships and subs returned. In 4 years I NEVER saw a news crew or media on the pier. Never.
My gut instinct tells me that in this case the "lottery" was rigged.
If it is rigged, considering our pop culture, don't most young people find two women kissing more "palatable" than two men kissing? Compare the success of "Girls Gone Wild" versus "Brokeback Mountain."
Has anyone here seen the beginning of "Watchmen?" Note - I had to turn it off shortly after the start.
