Despite those horrific charges, insiders reveal that Newt forgave his dad and they became fast friends.
Now sources say the 68-year-old White House contender’s close relationship with his violent father is bound to ignite a new scandal because the veteran politician has been a major crusader against domestic violence – and even co-sponsored the Violence Against Women Act in 1994.

Have posted a Wiki reference on Newt’s bio parents. Their marriage dissolved after just a few days. Mother was 16 and father 19 when they married; so there were no ‘good times’ to remember.
His step-father died in 1996. Do we know who contacted whom? When did bio-dad realize his son had accomplished so much from such adverse beginnings?
This biography will not hurt Newt - many adults who experienced similar family dysfunction will sympathize. Those that were more fortunate will be impressed by his overcoming the odds. JMHO

You choose to ignore Newt’s repeated progressive words and deeds but I will not. He has repeatedly stated that FDR, not Reagan was the best 20th century president and possibly the best-ever president. If you want another FDR, go ahead and vote for Newt.

If you are Christian, this is a major credit for him. Had he not tried for reconciliation it would have been a major negative.
People do change for the good, as well as the bad - but we do change, constantly - and hopefully for the better.
I still do not support Newt because I don't think he has the management skills necessary for the job. And, he has so much other baggage that The Democrats will have a field day.

Any man (or woman) who physically beats, rapes or terrorizes anyone, a spouse, child or stranger should be prosecuted. For decades, abused wives were held captive in violent marriages - it was the ‘secret’ that families kept; out of embarassment or helplessness.
