Russia Ramps Up New 'Satan' Nuke After U.S. Talks Breakdown

This new intercontinental ballistic missile, nicknamed "Satan" by Western analysts, will sport a 100-ton warhead and replace the Voevoda-class missile in the Russian nuclear arsenal, according to recent news reports. This massive ICBM will take its place alongside the Yars, Topol-M and Bulava-class ballistic missiles sometime in 2015, according to Sergei Karakaev, head of Russia's Strategic Missile Forces. Development of the new ICBM will coincide with plans to revamp the country's missile silo complexes over the next decade, Karakaev told Russian media. Moscow's decision to accelerate work on the new "Satan"-class ICBM was directly tied to recently failed missile defense negotiations between Russia and the United States.

Isn’t that the truth. Can’t remember the last time I heard something positive coming out of Russia. It’s a damned shame.

The last positive thing out of Russia was Rachmaninoff.

My response would be that for some reason I have an affinity for the Russian people. They have been through hell for the last 95 years or so. I want nothing more than for capitalism to flourish there, and the Russian people’s standard of living rise dramatically.

It’s the leadership that pops off, and talks down the U. S. It comes from such a woefully ignorant place. If it’s leadership would pull it’s head out, it would realize that the United States is not interested in keeping it in it’s place or anything like that.

Russia sees our intervention in Iran as a threat to it’s global aspirations. No, we see Iran as a threat to the stability of the civilized world. And yes, we actually think Russia is a part of that civilized world.

It’s all sad really. The Russian people will wind up taking it in the shorts again.

As an American of Polish descent, I imagine the Poles or the Czechs or the fill in the blank unfortunate neighbors will suffer before the Russian nationals.

We had a layover in Russia on our way back from Israel

Seems like a little out of the way, no?

They may. I would certainly hope not.

I am hopeful that those separate economies will flourish in the same manor as the Russian one would.

We were on the subject of the Russian nation, so I didn’t touch on the Eastern Block nations, or the break-away nations.

Russia’s best bet, is to become a real player in the Western economy. Trade with the old former Eastern block nations, the break-away nations.

Get a great shared economy going and put the past behind them all.

Tourism between these nations could be robust.

What’s your take on it, knowing more about the region than I do?

The Ruskies weren’t able to get a 100 megaton yield or even a 50 megaton yield. Their biggest topped out at somewhere between 12 and 25. Another problem for them with their doomsday weapon is that it would be very expensive in comparison with ABM defense devices to knock it down.

I’m pessimistic about the Russians ever becoming “westernized” They’re different, they always have been and they always will be. They have a huge inferiority complex combined with a swagger rarely seen outside of TX. (think Putin on the horse with his shirt off.) They’re rude, nasty and, more importantly, thoroughly corrupt.

I’m obviously biased as the Poles truly hate Russians. Poland should blow up that abomination of a building in Warsaw (The palace of Science and Culture) which was a “gift” from Stalin and Russian people in the ‘50s. google it, it’s a godawful building. I saw it in 2010.

The Western Allies should have kept going eastward in 1945 and cleaned house in Moscow. It would have spared millions the suffering they endured from 1945 until the USSR collapsed.

Their system of governance didn’t help any did it. It’s a shame but I would wager a lot of folks hole the opinion you do. It isn’t without some grain of truth to it.

Is the interior retched? I actually kind of like the exterior. Regardless, if the Polish people hate it, it should go.

There is something to be said about keeping some vestiges of oppression. You can look back and see how far you’ve come.

I’m sorry if my earlier posts tweaked you, concerning a relationship with Russia. My intent was not to rub salt in old wounds, but more to see Russia get over it’s love affair with China, and join the free world.

I can’t say you’re wrong about 1945. It does seem from history that the only time Russia really did reach it’s full potential, was when it was defending it’s homeland from Germany twice.

Take care. Thanks for the discussion. It’s nice to be reminded about Polish / Russian dynamics. If anyone has a reason to have old grudges (and I’m not dismissing anything with that term), it would be Poland. What’s the Polish dynamic with Germany these days? Is it still very negative?

Russia is only about 4 hours flying distance from Russia. “Tons” (pun intended) of Russians in Israel.

You mean Israel but I was thinking it would be common to change planes at a European or British airport or even direct. Anyway, I hope you had a nice trip.

The author is an idiot.

More so for the reason that the "new" SS-18 "Satan" was first deployed in 1975.

It’s an interesting place to visit. I’ve traveled fairly extensively in W. Europe, and was pleasantly surprised with how much cleaner Warsaw was than the average German city. The only exception was that building, Palace of Science and Culture. It looks neglected, garbage is around it, the marble is worn and it just looks uncared for.

Perhaps the building should be preserved as a memorial to the victims of the USSR and its puppet states.

Poland is so vulnerable, it’s just a flat plain, perfect for invasions. Poland didn’t exist from 1795 until 1918, it had been partitioned between Russia, Prussia and Austria-Hungary. There’s a lot of history there with the huge border shifts over the past few hundred years.

There are a lot of stereotypes on both sides of the border. Hate is probably too strong a word, perhaps. I was surprised to see more blondes in Poland than in Germany. Most Poles don’t hate the Germans, esp this long after the war. I think they dislike the Russians more. After all, it’s only been 20years, not 65.

My Christmas wish is that the world will live in peace!
