NEW YORK -- Witnesses say a fourth-grade boy choked on meatballs during lunch in a New York City school cafeteria this month and later died.
The New York Post reports that 9-year-old Jonathan Jewth fell to the ground during lunch Dec. 5 and was unconscious before help arrived. They say cafeteria workers at Public School 47 in the Bronx didn't know what to do and failed to help him.
"I saw the boy start choking, but nobody was helping," Andrea Perez, 25, told the New York Post.

Mayor Bloomberg will:
A. Demand that school staff be trained in the Heimlich Maneuver or
B. Call for a ban on meatballs.
I’m betting on B.
Even if they didn’t know the Heimlich Maneuver, they must have known how to slap him on the back, which might have helped. Sadly, they were probably so afraid that if they tried that they would be arrested for assault that they just stood there like lemons and watched him die.

OMG how awful! A 25 year old saw the child start choking and did nothing? Heads should be rolling over this. It is unacceptable.
Or they were afraid if they were unsuccessful they would be sued by the boy’s family (which will happen anyway). Hard to believe that nobody in a school cafeteria is prepared for such an event, though.

I imagine the witnesses were too shocked to discover that someone actually ATE that stuff.
Most educators and public workers are just educated idiots, no common sense whatsoever. It does not take a genius to know that when someone is blue in the face from choking that all you have to do is walk up behind them and pull inward right at the bottom of the rib cage, most times only once, and the obstruction will pop out. One woman said she say the boy was having trouble and one one was helping. Why the hell did she not go over and something? Stand there and do nothing that is the motto for most people today. It is a crying shame that this 9 year old had to die, because he swallowed something to big to go down his throat. IDIOTS

Betcha they’ve had hours and hours of training on searching for hidden crucifixes, drawings of guns, t-shirtswith conservative statements.
They also have bathroom duties to insure that cross gendered, nude, drug using, or smoking idiots have full rights to whatever part of whatever bathroom they desire.
Public schools suck.
