Like so many Conservative Americans, I put my hopes into Herman Cain. I thought: "Here's a Conservative Black man who really could defeat Obama." Then, the gales became a "perfect storm". I was devastated but still "believed" in him. "Hang in there Herman; fight this thing and come out stronger than ever." Well.... Herman gave up the fight and threw in the towel, which tells me one of two things:
#1. The guy was not the gutsy fighter I thought he was and let Gloria Allred and some old broads send him running like a scared rabbit. Or.......
#2. The guy was guilty and ran and hid behind God and his wife.
If you're innocent, you stand and fight until hell freezes over. But, Herman drops out of the GOP race for President. His accusers are eerily silent now. Herman is eerily quiet now. I wonder how much "left-over" campaign cash was used to silence his accusers.
I might sound like I'm pissed off, but it's more disappointment than anything. Is there no one that we can vote for who is a person of principle? Where are Sarah Palin, Jim DeMint and Paul Ryan when we really need them?
funny, they sell books, the economy sucks, we need jobs to be able to buy books. nothing is being done about the economy.
That's why I admire Harding and Coolidge. They were the last chief executives to see the president's role as a chief magistrate with constitutionally limited powers.
I am not fond of the candidates either, but there isnt a whole lot we can do about it................................................ Unfortunately you speak for many, and that is what the Democrats are counting on. They culled the opposition, and succeeded in picking one for you. Say what you will, but it doesn’t look bright when you are stuck with the bottom of the barrel as the choice. Run a blaah candidate, and you fail. Look forward to 4 more years of Obama. Cain like Palin, once out, the lawsuits vanish. We can thank the powerful Bureau of Propaganda that we have in the MSM, they certainly would have made Joseph Goebbels very proud.
It's for the same reason a lot of "conservatives" are gaga over a first-term Senator whose main qualification for national office is that he can speak to the pool boy without an interpreter.
Very sad.
I don’t think he’s stupid - but some of the things I see with him don’t add up.
eg the “oops” moment as you called it. How could someone forget a major, fundamental component of one’s approach to governing? That’s not something one forgets - thoughts like this are innate.
If one doesn’t forget such innate thought, then this is not perry’s innate thought. Why then did he claim that this was so important?
I’m willing to accept errors in memory for sure but this [among a few other gaffes] doesn’t add up.
But he IS saying the right things imo
Oh, cheer up. There are good people left in the world and in the race.
I was for Palin also and kinda stunned when she decided not to run. I’ve heard that she got death threats for her family. But not sure I buy that.
Too many people rushed off to find someone to love. Cain seemed loveable. He was never the man that his supporters thought he was. If he’d stayed in, you’d be hearing from both his campaign and his accusers.
Both he and Sarah have become irrelevant now in choosing a candidate, so why talk about them. The silence is not eery, it’s natural.
Or you just realize the process sucks and you’ve got better things to do with your time. Remember the old Douglas Adams joke, the political process guarantees that the people you want to be in charge never even try. Cain was a fairly anonymous fellow before starting this run, now he’s done, and will probably go back to being fairly anonymous. It was a fun few months, now we get to pick from the usual assortment.
He is busing all over Iowa working, working working. I like a man who will put in the hard work, it tells me something about them.
I think the "oops" moment was simply he lost his train of thought. I also consider how the spiritual realm operates. Tribulations work patience.
Newt is a fantastic debater and so is Mitt. It's what they do but Perry is a fantastic governor and he is a fantastic retail politician.
His strength is meeting you, talking to you personally, shaking your hand and listening to what you have to say. That is his strength. It's not Newts and it's not Mitt's.
Thanks for the reminder.
I tend to believe that his character was shaped by his earlier life. I know a few young men who have achieved the level of Eagle Scout. Those are values you carry with you throughout life. He served his country, piloted a plane and has the support of some heroic veterans. I do believe he is the only candidate on the stage to have served in the military. I think he is a real, down to earth, unapologetic Christian. People tend to forget that he is THE longest serving governor. That gives him historic standing as well. So he flubs a few lines on the national stage - I believe it to be similar to a case of stage fright. Talk is cheap. I’m ready for action.... and a part-time congress : )
Cain had zero chance at the presidency, and while a affiable enough fellow, folks who latched onto him did so more out of projecting onto him what they wanted him to be, than what he really was.
Had he been the candidate, the election would have been over before the confetti hit the floor of the convention hall at the RNC convention, and another 4 years of Obama would have been guaranteed.
Hopefully folks will learn from this.. You don’t send in someone with NO EXPERIENCE in the field, to do the biggest job their is in the field, EVER. Why folks would ever argue otherwise shows complete ignorance to fundamentals and history. Never won an election, no relative experience, there was a reason he’d never won an election, and it became blindingly clear in the debates, and with his repeated debacles on softball questions by the press.
Whether or not Mr Cain fooled around, who knows, though my personal opinion is, you are paying a woman $$ behind your wife’s back, you are most likely up to something.. and when you say “well the allegations are about a private consentual adult relationship, but nothing happened, so don’t investigate further.” you sure don’t sound like you are innocent.
However, that issue had zero to do with why Cain is gone, he showed repeatedly he was not remotely ready for prime time, he couldn’t handle softball questions, and then lashed out at the folks who asked them and tried to portray it as they were playing gotcha... It was beyond amateur hour. His campaign was a fustercluck and only existed because of folks who were desperate for something that wasn’t there, not because of clear organized leadership within it. etc etc etc.
I take exception to your post. I am a native Texan as well and the Perry you seem to think you know is not the Perry I know.
Frankly, you sound like the Austin liberal establishment and the entire liberal press in Texas who hate Perry because he doesn’t cater to them, because he follows his own beliefs, because he loves the country and refuses to adopt a cynical, sophisticated mien.
They hate that he’s strongly pro-life, pro-gun and pro-God. They hate it that he keeps getting elected even though THEY tell people not to vote for him.
That stupid Luntz was on Fox this morning bemoaning Perry’s ‘I am a Christian’ ad.
Cain has not been “silent” He has written three articles, has made many appearances across the country and has been on Hannity 3 times, plus other shows (TV and radio)
Cain isn’t “hiding” behind anyone. Gloria Cain was very much behind his efforts and launched the “Women for Cain” effort the day before he suspended his campaign.
He is still fighting the accusations with L. Lin Wood.
The fact is, he planned to make the announcement on Saturday to stay in the race, but received a phone call that he was getting death threats to his grandchildren. That was the final straw.
Some people think he should have pressed on in spite of the threats to his family. Others think he did the right thing.
He had threats from every side, even the side that was supposed to be his own - fellow conservatives. NO ONE stood up for him. Even some working close to the campaign sold him out. I’m sure could trust NO ONE. It’s becoming clear now who the traitors were.
The liberals didn’t have to work very hard. All they had to do was set a rumor in motion and let conservatives do the rest.
Many of you played right into their hands. It must have been great fun for them to watch. And now FR is throwing their support behind a RINO. They must have tingles going down their legs by now.
Congratulations, everyone.
I had the same feeling toward Cain. But I would just ask that you “KEEP THE FAITH,” the words Tony Snow wrote on his autographed picture before his death. We have some good candidates still standing. Listen and pick one you can support. Stay strong and involved, we need you. Let’s do it together.
It’s not principled to say dumb things about Perry just because you don’t like him and you’re miffed at another poster.
If you have something specific to say about Perry, fine.
But the IQ just around 70 thing is both childish and ridiculous.
Kinky and Perry. An odd couple but they seem to like each other.
Kinky has nothing but good things to say about Perry. Most people who know him, like him.
Yes, that was the point... that it is childish and ridiculous to say things without any supporting examples about candidates. The point is hereby made again... and furthered. It's only when one's chosen candidate is singled out that one appears upset. But posts that rail on in a similar manner about the other candidates? well, that's just fine.
That was my point.
Cain will be very stupid if he instigates any legal action against anyone.
He has no real case and he knows it. The sooner he drops this and lets it fade from everyone’s memory, the sooner he can get a job at Fox or some political appointment.
Perry is very stupid if he continues to run.
He has no real chance and he knows it. The sooner he drops this and lets it fade from everyones memory, the sooner he can get a job at Fox or some political appointment.
lol
