From plastic surgery to basketball love a glimpse into the bizarre world of North Korea's Kim Jong-il and his son Kim Jong-un
1/ The next leader, Kim Jong-un is an unexpected style guru in North Korea due to his haircut. Young men in Pyongyang are reportedly queuing at barbershops to copy his short, square, shaved-above-the-ears look, dubbed the "youth" or "ambition" haircut.
2 / South Korean media was awash last year with speculation that Kim had undergone plastic surgery numerous times in order to look more like his grandfather, Kim Il-sung, founder of the state, whom he has reportedly been groomed to emulate.
3/ Basketball, that most quintessentially American sport, is apparently a big passion of his with reports that he harbours a particular affection for Michael Jordan.
4/ The leader-in-waiting is believed to have attended a number of schools in Switzerland using various pseudonyms with some former pupils claiming he pretended to be the son of a driver.
5/ Shy not the most obvious quality for a leader...

“However, he also acquired a reputation as a student for being extremely competitive, particularly in sports, with skiing and basketball apparently his favourites.”
lol. not exactly the body of an athlete.
the cloak of power about his shoulders and who knows what the NK will get for their new dictator.
As part of condolences, zer0 is sending Madame Halfbright over to attend the funeral and present a gift basketball.
Perhaps like his father the young Kim will take up golf and get 6 holes-in-one the first time he tries. Certainly he is already able to leap tall buildings and is more powerful than a locomotive, but we may have to wait and see if he can dodge a speeding bullet.
...and to think I had mistaken all those celebrations for New Year's.....
Dry English Sarcastic dark humor,.....or just open reporting on North Korea?????
“Basketball Jong, I gotta basketball Jong, I gotta basketball Jong oh baby, oo-oo oo...”
How come Occupy Pyongyang isn’t calling for elections?
Lol
6/ However, he also acquired a reputation as a student for being extremely competitive, particularly in sports, with skiing and basketball apparently his favourites.
7/ His moment in his father’s spotlight reportedly came when his elder half-brother Kim Jong-nimmed a former favourite fell out of favour after being caught trying to enter Japan on a fake passport in order to visit Tokyo Disneyland.
8/ A Japanese chef who used to work as Kim Jong-il’s personal chef has described the new successor as “a chip off the old block, a spitting image of his father in terms of face, body shape and personality”.
9/ Following in the footsteps of the godlike reverence that surrounded his father, the younger Kim’s birthday has apparently been made a national holiday, celebrated annually on 1 January.
10/ Soldiers across North Korea have reportedly been shown a documentary film about the incoming leader over recent months, which is said to begin with the words: “Following in the footsteps of the General, offering guidance to the troops, comrade General Kim Jong Un delivers a great blow to the enemy with the resourcefulness of his keen insight.”
I first read the above commentary as serious,...but the more I read it, the better it reads as droll, dry, English comedy. Actually, very, very, very good comedy.
Then again, is it intended as humor or reporting?
The Japanese chef’s complement,...hehehe.
Initial reports are he was a D student in poor physical shape, literally the runt of his family.
North Korea: An ongoing Monty Python skit with nukes...
All Koreans advance their age on January 1st. They count the nine months gestation as their first year, so even if a Korean were born on March 15, for example, the following January 1st, they would be considered two years old, and increase their age by one every January 1st.
If an American asks a Korean how old they are, they will typically ask in return, "Korean age or American age?"
Looks like a family that runs a resturant by me.....the mother looks like she could be a cashier just about anywhere..you want to use American Express...3% more
"How you like me NOW, Hans Brix?!!!"
