GOP will take off the gloves if Ron Paul wins Iowa
Washington Examiner ^ | 121811 | Tim Carney

The Republican presidential primary has become a bit feisty, but it will get downright ugly if Ron Paul wins the Iowa caucuses.

The principled, antiwar, Constitution-obeying, Fed-hating, libertarian Republican congressman from Texas stands firmly outside the bounds of permissible dissent as drawn by either the Republican establishment or the mainstream media. (Disclosure: Paul wrote the foreword to my 2009 book.)

But in a crowded GOP field currently led by a collapsing Newt Gingrich and an uninspiring Mitt Romney, Paul could carry the Iowa caucuses, where supporter enthusiasm has so much value.

If Paul wins, how will the media and the GOP react? Much of the media will ignore him (expect headlines like "Romney Beats out Gingrich for Second Place in Iowa"). Some in the Republican establishment and the conservative media will panic. Others will calmly move to crush him, with the full cooperation of the liberal mainstream media.

For a historical analogy, study the aftermath of Pat Buchanan's 1996

Excellent post!

Thank you!

There was a tweet the other day that said that under a Ron Paul presidency, we would enjoy a very healthy economy, right up until Iran nuked us.

;o)

"I don’t believe that many of his current supporters know that about him."

Actually, what we know is that certain factions are inventing the supposed "Ron Paul positions", out of whole cloth.

IOW: Ron Paul is none of those that you mentioned.

Not racist.

Not anti-Semitic.

Not Jew-hating (that is what #2 means).

Not isolationist.

Not a "truther".

Perhaps one reason the Paul supporters like him is because we know he has "inventive" and determined enemies.

Another reason is because we have taken the time to learn the truth, so we find that he is exactly the opposite.

So it really doesn’t matter what I provide you, ok then.
You as well as Paul seem to think that Iran is all talk, which means you apparently know know nothing of who these people are or what they beleive their islamic fascists is.
It is for that reason Paul is dangerous.

Great points Designer. All of those fabricated anti-Paul talking pints are only going to strengthen the resolve of his supporters who know his TRUE positions. The latest talking point now appears to be that Paul’s supporters are drug users wanting to legalize drugs. Paul should print out signs & bumper stickers that say “it’s the fed stupid”. Abolishing Federal Reserve is one of the main points that draws people to supporting Ron Paul.

Ironically YOU assume far to much. Ahmadinejad was deliberately misquoted by those who have a vested interest. Quote: [ The original transcript does not contain the words "Israel," "wipe off" or "map." ] Read the full post. Much of the propaganda for rushing off to yet another war [ Iran will be much harder to conquer than Iraq was ] was based entirely on a deliberate misquote! Ahmadinejad never said that he wanted to "wipe Israel off of the map". He said he wanted to see the "occupation regime of Jerusalem to vanish from the page of times". That is not the same thing as claiming he said he wanted to wipe an entire country off of the map. I highly doubt that even the most devout truly want to go onto a suicidal path as they have children & grandchildren as well.

Ron Paul & his supporters did start the original Tea Party on the anniversary of the Boston Tea Party in 2007. The version of the Tea Party Paul speaks out against is the co-opted version which is run by the Republican establishment. You can not come in take something over / change its original principles then disparage those who point out the original founders & principles. This is so Orwellian because people are trying to consign Paul to the memory hole when he was the original founder.

Fortunately, neither you nor Dr. Paul will ever be responsible for this nation’s security.

".. bumper stickers that say “it’s the fed stupid”."

Great idea!

If I had anything to do with the campaign, I would like to offer some suggestions that might help in keeping the message on point.

No Paul did not. How many times does that have to be debunked. You are so enthralled with who you think Paul is, you can't see him for who he really is.

What you forget is that governing within the confins of the Constitution is much better for the nation’s security than threatening other countries. You also seem to forget that Paul would not be opposed to going to war SO LONG AS there is a declaration of war in the Congress. What you forget is that acting as the world’s policemen is far more of a threat to the nation’s security as it spreads the military out too thin / costs money we can not afford & puts us at higher risk for the lax borders where a larger terrorist threat looms. Paul would actually secure the borders unlike any other candidate so there is no question that the nation’s security would in fact be far better under a President Ron Paul.

I just have to laugh at your outright denial.

Ron Paul's tea party for dollars.

Ron Paul raises millions in today's Boston Tea Party event.

Paul supporters hold Tea Party re-enactment in Boston.

The fact that Ron Paul & his political supporters started the Tea Party is on the record. Paul has been advocating the themes of the Tea Party for decades prior. Those 3 news article links are from December 16 2007 when Ron Paul held the first Tea Party rally long before it was co-opted by the Republican establishment. Looks like YOU are the one who just got debunked. Paul is on the record as being the biggest proponent of small government in Congress for decades & a return to the Constitution.

Paul is a blame America first guy.
Paul is anti-Semitic.
You support him I don’t care.
I do not support people like Paul.

At worst, Ron Paul is a cynical gadfly, eager for the attention that his campaign brings to him and extracting perverse pleasure from pissing in the soup of American politics.

At best, Ron Paul is Don Quixote, Man of La Mancha. And his supporters are Sancho Panzas.

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, since the literary analogy is a near-perfect one.

In either event, he will never be President of the United States.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you.
