Republican elder statesman and former Senate leader Bob Dole on Sunday endorsed Mitt Romney to be the Republican presidential nominee, a day after the former Massachusetts governor received the backing of Iowa's main newspaper.
In an open letter to Iowa voters, Dole - himself a former presidential candidate - said a great deal was at stake on January 3, when Iowa votes in the first nominating contest for the 2012 presidential election.
"A number of my friends are currently candidates seeking the GOP nomination. But the time has now come for us to decide who among them can defeat Barack Obama in 2012. I've made my decision, and I believe our best hope lies in Governor Mitt Romney," Dole wrote.
"As President, Mitt Romney will succeed in turning this country around," he wrote. "He rescued a flailing Winter Olympics when it was mired in financial scandal. He was an exceptional Governor of Massachusetts, who managed to both balance the state's budget and cut taxes while dealing with an overwhelmingly Democratic state legislature."
Though Dole's endorsement is not much of a surprise this election cycle, he went a different route in 2008 when Romney made his first bid for the nomination. Four years ago Romney got in some hot water when he said that Dole - who had written a letter supporting eventual Republican nominee Senator John McCain - was the last person he would want a letter from.

I’m shocked. I guess they want the RINO losers club to expand by one more. Dole’s probably bored with Bush the Elder and Juan McLame.
HAHAHHAAHHA!!
We thank you Dole. The viagra’s working. You good old boys are sticking together like the scum that binds you.
Good grief. If I were Romney I’d reject that. This is as close as it comes to the Kiss of Death- Wasn’t Dole also the spokesperson for Viagra?
Quite frankly, who gives a rat’s rear what an old rino has to say?
I appreciate Dole’s service during WWII, but he did lasting, expensive damage with the Americans with Disabilities Act. That is the reason that welfare mothers can get their kids diagnosed with ADHD and the like, then collect “crazy money” on the kids until they are 18.
If Romney is still excited about this endorsement after 4 hours, he better call his doctor.
Gosh darn, is he still alive???
Yeah but he doesn’t have respect for what other vets fought and died for - he supports giving it away.
Endorsement from the King himself? The King of Foo Stams? Kingdom’s subjects are listening.
My most vivid recollection of Mr. dole was during the budget crisis in the 1990’s, when Gingrich and House Pubs were ready to shut down the Gov’t in opposition to Clinton, and there was the Michel’s quisling Dole on the Senate floor, pencil clutched in hand, on CNN, caving— and cutting out the foundation under the conservative 94 house GOP.
This for his delusional presidential run. One would think that a man overdosed on Viagra, would be made of sterner stuff.
Gee, I wonder who called him that?
Too bad Nelson Rockefeller’s not around to give Romney another much sought after endorsement.
Bob Dull II.
Exactly, One Loser endorsing another.
Who would have thunk it! The Fix is in—you must accent Mittens and dump that scamp, nut case Newt (did you know he sat on a couch with Nancy Pelosi?) Why that fat old man can’t be elected—Let us go down to flaming defeat with old Mittens—its his chance don’t cha know? If you don’t—why Obama will put Commies on the bench—he will force health care.... The race is fixed —Newt was doomed just as Hillary was for the Dems in 08.
I am sick of it—I am sick of being manipulated by focus groups. I can now understand the popularity of Ron Paul.
Sarah Palin saw the Fix that’s why she stepped back. I am ready to Bolt this country club party and go Third Party—If Sarah, Trump or Paul goes 3rd Party—I will go with them. Why cast you vote for Mitt and lose, when you can cast you vote for someone you like and lose? Be ready for 4 more years of Obama—Its getting a little like Putin’s Russia.
Dole takes his latest dose of Viagra, and ends up backing Willard.

At his age (all due respect to US Army Service etc) it is important to know where the blood was when he made this bold prediction, going against the establishment. (barf)
All Willard needs is Jerry Ford to swing him the dead rino vote. Aren’t these establishment Republicans the least bit self conscious about the losers whose endorsements they take?
