The hottest argument in Republican circles these days isnt about immigration, taxes or even health care policy. Its about New Gingrich and whether nominating him as the party standard-bearer would be disastrous or providential.
The pundits and professional consultants have weighed in on the question in a largely negative manner but many of the Republican candidates seeking election to Congress next fall dont appear to share the concerns the GOP establishment seems to have about the impact Gingrich would have on downballot races as their presidential nominee. A dozen of the GOPs top recruits to run for Congress, part of the National Republican Congressional Committees Young Guns program for 35 promising candidates, said in interviews with NBCPolitics.com over the last week that theyre not worried about running with the former House speaker at the top at the ticket. Some are downright excited about the prospect.
"Ive been telling people all along that Newt is the real thing, and hes substantially different than when he was Speaker of the House," said Dave Garrison, the Republican challenging Democratic Rep. Lloyd Doggett in Texas.
I think for my race, my views are more in line with Newt Gingrich, and if the base rallies behind a Newt Gingrich-like candidate, it will benefit me, said another Republican running for Congress in the southwestern U.S., who asked for anonymity in order to speak candidly about the race. I think Newts a more exciting candidate; hes going to bring more attention to the conservative cause.

Or The Newterer, because he’s going to do that to Obama.
His policies will be Newtonian.
His economic plans are called Newtonomics.
He has Newtmentum.
I could do this all day...
Newt will bring innovative change, eg; limit judges. Mitt will not shake up the old boy network.

And--thanks for this post of yours! It is really encouraging
One thing I wish somebody would shout from the rooftops is how ALL Federal employess--including ALL Congress Critters--DO have PRIVATE Social Security Accounts; it's called the Thrift Savings Plan (TSP).
And I would be willing to bet (a small sum!:)that it has netted all those Dim hypocrites a nice little nest-egg since 1985, when the Fed made it mandatory that all new-hires enroll under FERS--Federal Employment Retirement System, and offered those under the old system-- CSRS (Civil Service Retirement System)--the opportunity to switch over to FERS.
FERS is really just Social Security--BUT anyone who switched over from CSRS in 1985, or who was employed after 1985, was given the opportunity to have a TSP accounts--which allowed them to put a small percentage of their income into (GASP!!) the Stock Market--and other kinds of PRIVATE investment entities, including ones that were high risk--but earned a higher rate of return.
If Newt were to bring this up--it would put the Dims on the defensive immediately, and (I think) shut them up effectively whenever they think about screaming and ranting about "privatizing Social Security.
I know of one Fed employee who, in a short period of 7 years, accumulated $50,000--with only the maximum investment allowed and with matching Fed funds. Just imagine how much moola Frank and Dodd and the other Dim have accumulated in thier TSP accounts! Would make an interesting WaPo article (in our dreams!)
If there’s a liberal bone in his body (which I sincerely doubt) he’d still be infinitely less liberal than the second place, second rate Mitt Romney. And much more reliable than the third place third rate, Ron Paul. Bachmann’s a great conservative congressperson, but sorry, she doesn’t hold a candle to Newt’s actual conservative accomplishments and can’t compete against the depth of his real world knowledge and experience. Nor can Santorum. And Perry’s got a huge mountain to move to make it into the top tier. But it is a mountain of his own doing, so maybe he can move it. But, meanwhile, if it’s Newt vs Romney, I’m with Newt all the way.
I give.... you win. LOL
Isaac Newton’s law of gravity: goes up - falls down.
Newton Gingrich’s law: falls down - gets up.
Actually I believe that Gingrich will at least attempt to make these things happen, the others I know will not even attempt.
Well since his record says he will do what he says he will do, what is the platform he is running on now. His platform as per his website is solidly conservative.
It's good news for Newt that the down-ticket candidates support him. However, I worry that a Newt nomination will “energize” the Democrats (and some moderates and independents) just as a Pelosi nomination by the Democrats would energize us. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any good alternatives among the current crop of candidates.
Okay, what is so “liberal” about him? Because he sat with Pelosi on a couch? He admitted that was dumb, and AFAIK he’s anything but an avowed AGWist. He’s said multiple times on record that he believes evidence on human-induced climate change to be inconclusive. What better could you ask for?
Or because he supposedly called the Ryan plan ‘right-wing social engineering’a statement which was entirely taken out of context if you listen to his explanation here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=hCTM2hzMvrY
Bah. I’m half-tempted to start a substantive list refuting annoying these mischaracterizations with appropriate counter-evidence.

Term limits NOW!!!!
And take their staff with them. Staff are the true power brokers. No revolving doors.
One thing I thought about during last night’s debate:
Newt’s understanding of the true intent of the judiciary could singlehandedly do more to stop the liberal agenda than anything else. Imagine actually destroying and re-building the 9th Circus court!
Don't worry about Newt!
If he wins the presidency he will not be satisfied with being just another Big Government President.
As a student and maker of history, Newt will want to achieve a legacy for the history books.
He will revert to the old Newt.
He will not let the opportunity slip away!
Elect Newt ans be ready to help him restore America's greatness again.
We must not stop being activists.
We can help him erase every vestige of Obama in less than a year!
I’m coming around to the idea that if Newt can win us over, he can win swing voters over, too.
I know. Just like our attacks on our Islamic terrorist enemy energized them and their attacks on us would have actually intensified (had they not been dead).
Personal responsibility extends to the purchase of health insurance. Citizens should not be able to cheat their neighbors by not buying insurance, particularly when they can afford it, and expect others to pay for their care when they need it.That doesn't sound very conservative.
I think if you have mandatory carbon caps combined with a trading system, much like we did with sulfur, and if you have a tax-incentive program for investing in the solutions, that theres a package there thats very, very good. And frankly, its something I would strongly support.#5 While he was in Congress, Newt Gingrich co-sponsored 418 bills with Nancy Pelosi.
None of the former Freddie Mac officials who spoke on condition of anonymity said Gingrich raised the issue of the housing bubble or was critical of Freddie Macs business model. It turns out that much of the "work" that Gingrich was expected to do never actually got done....
Former Freddie Mac officials familiar with his work in 2006 say Gingrich was asked to build bridges to Capitol Hill Republicans and develop an argument on behalf of the companys public-private structure that would resonate with conservatives seeking to dismantle it.#10 The Republican Party is supposed to be the party of "moral values", but they are getting ready to send someone to the White House that has a track record that would make Bill Clinton blush.
He was expected to provide written material that could be circulated among free-market conservatives in Congress and in outside organizations, said two former company executives familiar with Gingrichs role at the firm. He didnt produce a white paper or any other document the firm could use on its behalf, they said.
Newt's personal baggage is either weird or scary. He married his high-school geometry teacher. He cheated on her and divorced her while she had cancer. So he married Marianne Ginther six months later. But that wasn't to last. How in the world can Republicans be supporting this guy?
Gingrich conducted a tawdry affair behind her back with one of his staffers while making political hay out of Clinton's affair with a White House intern. He then divorced Marianne and married the staffer.
Both Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich supported the outrageous $700 billion Troubled Asset Relief Program, or TARP, bailouts one of the most unpopular government programs in American history, even according to President Obamas own Treasury Department.
Both Romney and Gingrich have been outspoken and unapologetic supporters of the individual mandate. This is the heart and soul of ObamaCare.
Since the tea party started as a reaction to Republicans who voted for TARP, and was strengthened into a national political force during the fight over ObamaCare, I believe this disqualifies both Romney and Gingrich from tea party support.
Gingrich began his career as a Rockefeller Republican from the liberal wing of the party. And though he has often spoken and occasionally acted like he left that wing, it is clear from his flip-flops and multiple apologies that his heart is still there.
His record features highlights such as global warming commercials with Nancy Pelosi, support for cap-and-trade, funding Planned Parenthood, and, recently, announcing that life does not begin at conception.
Not only that, but Gingrich took money as a Freddie Mac lobbyist one of the well-known government-backed agencies that served as a root cause of the financial meltdown of 2008.
While one candidate in the race, my father, Rep. Ron Paul, was publicly warning about Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and the crisis they were helping to create, Gingrich was earning millions to not only endorse but also promote the status quo.
One group of Gingrichs also took in nearly $40 million promoting big-government ideas, such as the individual mandate.
His lobbying and promotion of the housing crisis and the health care mandate have helped to make him a wealthy man, but they have also put him outside the conservative mainstream on most issues.
So I will conclude by saying two things: Gingrich is not from the tea party. He is not even a conservative.
He is part of the Washington establishment I was sent to fight. He has been wrong on many of the major issues of the day, and he has taken money from those who helped cause the housing crisis and create millions of foreclosures.
The Newtron Bomb will sweep away the Obama people but leave the buildings intact!
