>>What, you want to trade places with them?<<

For a time, yes.
Why wouldn’t I? Their life is just like mine except they have more time to be together. My hubby is working 10 hour days for that lifestyle.

>>Or are you saying they should be living under a bridge with their children since the dad only works part time?<<
If they chose to have one part-time income coming into their house, then that is THEIR choice, isn’t it?

ok. I guess you told me.

However, I am not a believer in “tough love”, calling her and encouraging her is not “enabling”

One more thing - on the dole, no voting privileges. A clear conflict of interests, don’t you think?

“Assistance” does NOT mean “Unemployment”. If you willingly or willfully misunderstand that, you are being dishonest in this debate.

That’s a red herring.

And the $600.00 toilet seat is as irrelevant to the discussion as it is (probably) excessive. (I say probably because sometimes such items are actually that costly, when they have special-purpose deployment.)

Did they “chose” it or were those the cards that were dealt?

The very title of this article starts with the words “Welfare Workers”, not “Unemployment Workers”, BTW.

Yes, give her your money. After all, if she’s morbidly obese and unemployable, she’s obviously a champ at making good decisions. In fact, you’d better set up a monthly allowance, because if you give her money once, you will never get rid of her again.

Nope, I am suffering from the terrible economy too, do not work for a government agency, I wish I did, good benefits. Nope, I doubt I make more than you. Self employed.

Oh for heaven’s sake, neither of them lost some steady job to be in this position, if that’s what you mean.

Honest to God, some people need to get into the cities and see what is going on. Even when the economy was great and there was 4% unemployment, people took.

It’s human nature. If one can get it for free, one will.

BTW if you are talking about SSI, they are handing it out like a candy store now. Apply again. Part of the agenda is to get as many people on assistance as possible, so the Democrats can get elected again.

I encouraged her when she put in an effort.
I’m past it now.

Well, I was working three jobs at one point.

Let’s see. Will be one of my better years I guess, 10k from one job, 5k from another and 1k from the third.

I’d rather tell them to go to hell. I’m ok right now. I’m clearing living expenses (even after moving to my new place), and am starting to save up again.

I am appalled at all of you “Freepers” who want to pick on the “poor” during this current economic crisis.

I have literally been at the grocery store and watched a woman buy groceries of a type/quality I could not afford, pay for them with a WIC card, and then load them into a luxury SUV that not only could I not afford, but could not afford to gas up. This may sound like a load of BS but I guarantee you it is 100% true. And I'm a working cat with a family of four, lucky enough have a paying gig.

THIS is the type of thing that riles people up whenever this topic comes up.

And what say you to the $600 toilet seat sold by the contractor to the military?

Well, if Alonzo Bodden is to believed, and he was being truthful, according to what he said on a recent Adam Carolla podcast, that "$600 toilet seat/hammer/whathaveyou" we all heard about was used to mask all the top-secret development work they were doing on the SR-71 Blackbird. Bodden used to work on that program at Lockheed as a wrencher. So there you go.

they would rather be working

I used to work for DHS and for a low income jobs training program. No, 99% of them do NOT want to work. When I did place them in jobs, they'd be found hiding out asleep somewhere or wouldn't bother showing up. I couldn't even get them to go to GED classes where they got a paycheck for merely occupying a desk. I would knock on their doors in the mornings to drive them in my own car but they couldn't be bothered to roll out of the bed.

We all believe in helping others.

The only question is whether you sacrificially give of your own resources,

OR whether you confiscate your neighbor’s resources by force to assuage your guilt without personal cost (or with less personal cost).

How can it be moral to rob our grandchildren to ‘give’ to those in need today? They will work their entire lives away with no hope of ever paying this debt - a debt thrust upon them by others for the benefit of others.

Giving your money is charitable, taking another’s by force to ‘give’ is criminal.

Im poor. And im a flipping “welfare” worker. Its a bitch being a conservative and doing what I do. They come in the office with a do rag, pajamas, and house shoes. They get 1200/rent, free electricity, free daycare, gas cards, bus passes, $400 in cash, 900 in food stamps, and free cellphones. And I can barely get by. Welfare recipients can kiss my silly white ass.
