Obama scared of Mitt? I don't think so. Coming from a fighter like Nikki Haley, I'm more than disappointed because:

As a typical standard-issue Republican, Romney wouldn’t have the heart or the courage to take the fight to the president, but instead would debate around the edges, and lose. (Michael Walsh,'The Stupid Party')

“Maybe it’s his bright smile or his perfect hair.”

I think that’s exactly it. With the dumbed down electorate who treat the presidential election like “American Idol”, the optics of who stands on the debate stage next to Obama may be the deciding factor to the so-called independents and moderates who don’t follow politics. I don’t have much faith in the American voter...

If someone governs as a conservative, then I’m always willing to forgive them for a bad endorsement. That said, this news is really disappointing.

Any elected official who endorses Romney should be thrown out of office. I don’t know when Governor Haley is up for re-election, but I sincerely hope that the people of South Carolina hold this against her and replace her with someone who won’t kowtow to the GOP elite.

And a Romney/Bachmann ticket? The plastic man and the shrill harpy? I can’t think of a more revolting platform for 2012. Not that I’d ordinarily vote for Romney, but any remaining traces of goodwill toward him would be out the door if he wins the nomination and picks Michele for VP.

I would seriously rather vote for Obama than Romney *shiver*

If we are going down, I’d rather a Democrat be in charge. And make no mistake, if we elect Romney it would be the end of the country.

Haley is not running. Mitt was a governor. She is a governor.

These people almost always think more highly of themselves than is ever warranted ~ ask Jimmy Carter about that problem.

She'll come around once Mitt has a guaranteed loss.

SC Republican primary voters seem to pick the wrong person time and time again, just like their NH counterparts.

Sure doesn’t take long to become part of the GOP elite, does it.

I hope you’re right. I wish she had just waited to speak up until after our nominee has been chosen, though.

Barry Goldwater was among the first to observe that the American electorate is not laid out on a continuum of thought from Left to Right, with a broad middle made up of "moderates".

He, alas, ran into the other guy who thought that ~ Lyndon Baines Johnson.

LBJ thought, as did Goldwater, and myself, and others who've thought much about it, that the American electorate is organized into a Bi Modal Saddle. There is no broad middle, and there are no moderates.

There are simply two poles, each formed up a bit differently from the other one, and surrounded by a very thin "FRINGE".

Most politicians who imagine a broad middle fail to realize they are making their appeal to an exceedingly thin "FRINGE" which yields no votes.

Skipping beyond the differences in organization structure of each pole, let's get to the meat ~ how you win an election. First, you must secure your own voting base in your pole. Then, you strive to peal off a faction on the other pole. That doesn't mean you "go to the left" or "go to the right". It means you identify a special interest group or class in the other pole and demonstrate that you serve their interests better than the other guys ~ at least for this election.

That's pretty much LBJ's contribution to the theory BTW. All needed to win was all the Democrats PLUS some Republicans. Richard Nixon picked up on this and finally won by keeping ALL Republicans in line and picking off Southernerners with higher education or businesses.

Ronald Reagan attracted the active practicing Roman Catholics ~ of whom there are millions of people who vote religiously (that's a pun).

All the while these winners kept their base and did permanent damage to the others. LBJ, for instance, pulled in a substantial part of a former hunk of the Republican base, the black voters. Nixon's attraction of the Southern ownership classes managed to make that a permanent loss.

Obama won ONLY because he pulled back a chunk of the RC vote (white liberal guilt ~ they know better now) while keeping 100% of the Democrat base.

In the next election Republicans retrieve 100% of the ownership class, all of the RC voters they've ever gotten before, and keep their base. Obama loses the ownership class folks, probably YOUTH because they are the people who are unnaturally left UNEMPLOYED or employed in dead end jobs with no chance for advancement, and he may well lose even the Hispanics because even they can see how utterly devoid of ideas he is ~ the man's like the politicians they or their parents left behind.

It is up to the Republicans to capitalize on this situation. Best bet is to NOT run a candidate who sounds like Romney, or who has done the same things Obama did ~ e.g. BS Healthcare programs that bankrupt states and nations.

Anybody else can win.

“...At the end of the day, Romney is still going to lose and Haley is still going to be a fine Gov.”

Exactly. And Haley will have satisfied the debt for Romney’s extremely early endorsement of her when she was just one of a pack of SC primary candidates for governor.

Romney isn't feared by ANYONE. He's a joke. Have these establishment types been paying attention? The DNC has already made a mockery of what a flip flopping wimp RINOmney is & they have dozens and DOZENS of embarrassing Mitt videos that will be played ad nauseum if he wins the primaries. He's a weak, liberally prone candidate. Him being an easy target does not mean they fear him.

Romney will make the whole Republican party look pathetic if he's our nominee. He will be representing all of us whether we like it or not. Did you see in the debate last night how he already conceded to caving to democrats (much like he did in Mass.) this chump couldn't even stand up to Ted Kennedy (instead tried to out-liberal him) but somehow he's going to stand up for conservatism and win, huh. Yea right!

Haley completely sold out with this endorsement.

Bottom line is there were MANY “political hopefuls and wann-a-be’s” who jumped in front of the Tea Party and said “Follow me”. And many Tea Partiers were duped. I include myself in that group but always had a little doubt if they were all for real.

There are also many “tea partiers” who continue to say “Change the republican party from within”. I hope they’re starting to see that ain’t gonna’ happen. Only a third party will make any real changes. And that would take decades. We don’t have decades. So, I don’t know what the solution is.

The only reason McLame won SC last time is because of cross-over voters.

There is one problem with that analysis. The number of people who voted in the Democratic primary in 2008 was greater than the number who voted in the Republican primary.

This is somewhat a slap in the face to Rick Perry, who's consistently cited Haley as a fine governor and got the whole "Boeing" disaster in South Carolina on the minds of voters (and how Obama screwed up.)

Dammit, woman.

I wonder, like Ann Coulter, Christine the witch and now Haley, does she want to be one of Romney’s many wives???”

I must have missed something. Many wives?
I’m a strong Perry supporter but I believe Mitt Romney is a good person with a philosophy that has evolved over the years. We all grow up. I disagree with him on a couple of issues, neither of which has to do with religion. His “one-wife” family doesn’t get any better. They’re all admirable. I’ll vote for Romney if my guy doesn’t make it and Romney does. I would like to see any and all of our candidates in tact as they cross the finish line.
