When she was rescued, the U.S. government used footage of Lynch to spin a tale that exaggerated the truth. To make her seem more heroic and rally public support for the war, the military claimed she'd gone down firing — when, in fact, her rifle had jammed.

The exaggeration wasn't intended to rally 'support for the war'. The exaggerators were a specific group within the Pentagon and their agenda much narrower than that.

So if she wasn't firing her weapon how did it jam? Are we give our soliders weapons that jam on their own?

Does it matter that her rifle jammed or she was shooting it out??

The crux of the matter is that she was wounded and a prisoner whom we were able to rescue because of a good Iraqi citizen. We did a good job. The media does their twisting and turning as they see it. Most news reports were titled "Bash Bush".

I thank God everyday that he was President at the time.

The only reason she was injured and captured was because the driver of her Humvee made a wrong turn into a town, then crashed. The driver was killed in the crash, and now there’s a mountain in the middle of Phoenix named after her.

It's been quite a while, but I think the real story that came out later said she was injured and didn't even attempt to fire her weapon.

I took a minute and reviwed the many many threads on Jessica Lynch.

She made so many mistakes. The Army also made so many mistakes. Her time in the Army was not a success story.

But it does look like she has overcome those mistakes, and I wish her well in all her future endeavers.

Was she injured by the enemy while in preformance of her duties? YES

That’s all I need to know and in my opinion Thats enough.

She has disavowed the title of "hero" and is honest about her experiences. The article says she still has problems with her legs from the injuries:

Then, on badly damaged legs and a right foot that still pains her, she'll walk across a stage Friday evening and get her education degree from West Virginia University at Parkersburg. "It's tough to walk, but I look at it as, 'At least I'm walking,'" she says. "At least I have my legs. They may not work. I have no feeling in the left one. But it's attached, at least. ... At least I'm alive."

She is a good person trying and succeeding at rebuilding her life and always supporting the men and women of the US military, at home and overseas.

Same here... just illuminating the fact that Piestawa was the name reassigned to Squaw Peak, not Lynch.

Climbed (walked) the trail up Squaw Peak a number of times (back in the day.)

And a lot of those killed on beaches all over the world never fired there weapons. Anyone that wants to make something of it can kiss it. She got in the vehicle and she went there knowing she could be killed. Hats off to the warrior.
