Tea Partiers Reject Beck's Claim That Support of Gingrich Is Racial
By Judson Berger
Published December 14, 2011 | FoxNews.com

Glenn Beck is catching heat from the Tea Party movement that he helped champion -- and helped champion him -- after suggesting Tea Partiers who support Newt Gingrich over President Obama would do so only because Gingrich is white.

The former Fox News host made the comments in an interview over the weekend on Fox Business Network. Beck, after calling Gingrich a "progressive" and the "only candidate" in the Republican presidential race he could not vote for, issued what he described as a "challenge" to the Tea Party base -- which in large part has flocked to the former speaker's candidacy.

"This man is a progressive," Beck said. "So if you've got a big government progressive ... in Obama -- one in Newt Gingrich, one in Obama -- ask yourself this, Tea Party. Is it about Obama's race?"

Judge Andrew Napolitano, host of the FBN show, questioned Beck on the argument.

"It must be about race," Beck responded. "I mean, what else is it? ... It's the policies that matter."

In a nutshell, Beck has demonstrated Gingrich’s progressivism beyond dispute.

He therefore quite properly asks tea partiers how they can support Newt and disdain Obama.

“Mr. Beck, why don’t you ask yourself if it’s about religion?”

Surely, beck wouldn’t play the “religion card”. /s

It would appear that Newt is the only politician on the planet who is not allowed to have made friends, made enemies, been unfaithful, raised two wonderful daughters, changed churches, spoken up, stayed silent, listened, looked, studied, criticized, praised, asked questions, given answers, caused confusion, solved problems, started debates, ended stalemate, shut down the government, reduced taxes, reduced spending, won election, resigned from office, written books, read books, recommended books, learned stuff, taught stuff, raised funds, spent his own money, admired others, disapproved of others, been funny, been serious, been argumentative, been conciliatory and God forbid - been human.

A couple of points, folks:

In this event, some people are simply repeating what they have heard second- or third-hand like a giant game of "Telephone", so that by the time they repeat it, they have no idea what was originally said or intended.

I heard what Glenn Beck said with my own ears the moment he said it, and also in context.

He absolutely did not intend to imply racial animus to the Tea Party. Instead, he was making a point about both Obama and Gingrich being Progressives, and daring people to identify any difference between them other than race.

It was an inelegantly-made argument and also, in my opinion, a mistaken one. But it was absolutely not meant as an indictment of the Tea Party on racial grounds.

Beck is wrong in my opinion, because "Progressivism" is not something to which Obama and Gingrich are equally attached. Further, his failure to differentiate between people who sometimes espouse Progressive ideas (Gingrich), those who do it frequently (Romney), and those who wish to impose it imperiously as doctrine (Obama) is sometimes causing him to ignore the reality of electoral politics and also to make poorly-considered statements like the one he made about the Tea Party.

Yes it’s a publicity stunt by this desperate man who is no longer relevant.
He made a bad career move by leaving Fox and moving from NYC .
His radio show ratings must be dying.
His comments about supporting the 9-11 truther / blame America for 9-11/
Israel hating / Ear mark king of Congress Ron “code pink “ Paul
Show that Beck is done.

...and Newt; who believes that our Founding Fathers stand as 'guiding lights' in our landscape of American history

Yet he's repeatedly credited FDR,Wilson, and Teddy Roosevelt as the greatest Presidents of the Twentieth Century.

So which group is he lying about?

One can not "like" both groups and be philosophically consistent.

Oddly enough, some of the same things Beck has done over his lifetime.

I quit listening to GB a while back for this reason. He puts himself as the only TRUE conservative out there. I am surprised he hasn’t been on with Alex Jones yet. He sees things no one else sees (and will sell you survival seeds too). His head has become inflated since he now has his “restoring” this or that rallies, addressed Israeli politicians. He is a joke at this point. Newt may not be Reagan and short of reanimation we won’t get another Reagan he is light years better than Obama. Glenn, shut up.

Beck reminds me of the reporter for American Spectator that wrote the negative stories on clintoon in the 90s and subsequently became an ardent liberal.

***Oddly enough, some of the same things Beck has done over his lifetime.***

But Beck has never faced an electorate - never been in the arena. A radio/TV gig is not equivalent to passing or preventing legislation.

Beck is an entertainer/agitator referenced in the Constitution as ‘free speech. It’s the Newt’s of the world who strive to protect it.

I watch GBTV and heard Glenn go over this, and this ‘racist’ comment is taken 180o out of context in this tripe passing as ‘news’.

DITTO! I watch GBTV and it was clearly a joke or a bit of sarcasm. A jab really at the liberal media who call the TEA Party racist because now its white against black instead of Cain vs Obama like it was just a few weeks ago.

As for Becks hatred for all things progressive even if it is from the Right, I don't see a problem with that. We are still in the primary and he wants the most conservative candidate to rise to the top. We all do. Becks frustration with the TEA Party is they seem be suffering a case amnesia not remembering the reasons they did not like Newt a few months ago when he was in the single digits.
