Lots of news stories today about how the race to win Iowa is still wide open. The New York Times Nate Silver takes a whirl through the polling data and says any of five candidates could plausibly win. And Politicos Maggie Haberman reports that internal poll numbers from the Mitt Romney and Rick Perry camps show Newt Gingrichs lead in Iowa is indeed slipping.
Interestingly, she also quotes a veteran GOP caucus-watcher as saying:
Watch Rick Perry. Hes going for a top three finish, and that could be to Romneys expense.
Weve found ourselves wondering about Perry, whos kicking off a 42-city Iowa bus tour today. Notably, two recent Iowa polls have shown a slight uptick in Perrys support. In particular, an American Research Group (ARG) poll released yesterday (Tuesday) showed him gaining 8 points...
...And despite some intense Internet mockery, Perrys Strong ad - where he criticizes the fact that gay soldiers can serve openly in the military while children cant celebrate Christmas in school - may be generating some traction in the state.
In particular, Decoder is now wondering if the ads appeal was actually two-fold - going beyond Christian conservatives to another potentially powerful voting bloc: veterans...

“I’ll go out on a bit of a limb and say, Gingrich, Perry, Bachmann, Romney as 1 2 3 4.” (in Iowa)

Thanks shield.
I’d say confrontation, but a civil one. Obozo is such a jerk.
Iowans don't nearly have the problems with illegals as do other States.
Cracks me up, so yes.
On January 3.....I wish you all a Perry New Year too!
PS: I love that cute Platypus!
You been messin with my puter again. ;)
It could happen!
Love what you did Potlatch, thank you.
Where is WV getting their electricity from when the EPA shuts down 6 of your coal fired electric plants soon?
Mr dumbest hayseed hick in the world, who has fought the epa tooth and nail here in TX is the one candidate I know who would be committed to getting rid of the epa's shuttering of these plants.
Oh, please a potted palm could beat Obama in a debate.
Are we to vote for a slick debater, or a true leader? For pete’s sake, let’s not get blind sided by someone who can debate well, but, someone who is a true conservative and leader. I’m scared that even though Newt might cream Obama in a debate, he isn’t the true conservative leader we want or need.
I am sure Newt is not as committed to the 2nd amendment as Perry is. Perry walks the walk on that one.
Ditto on getting rid of job killing, economy crushing overzealous epa regulations which will cost thousands of jobs when coal fired electric generating plants are shuttered. Perry has sure walked the walk on fighting the epa here in TX.
Obama hates Texas, and he must fear Perry or he wouldn't have sent Eric Holder down here yesterday to give a big speech in Austin about getting some of the bills the Texas legislature recently enacted tossed out asap.
And he did it while Perry was out of state.
Damn Feds need to stay out of our business. We know what we're doing and we don't cotton to Commies down here.
I’m not going to vote for a debater-in-chief, but, a commander-in-chief. Perry is my pick for President. However, I will vote for whoever the nominee is - and if it isn’t Perry- then I’ll hold my nose when I vote. Obama and his thugs need to hit the road - asap!
Of course, they won't take it to Perry mano a mano. Remember how Obama freaked & hid behind Valerie Jarrett's skirts when Perry met him on the tarmac..
Remember when Obama invited Perry to meet him at his speech cuz Obama was thinking, I'll use this dumb Texan for a prop on how safe the border is..
Well, Rick wasn't falling for that one, and said so. He's not perfect, but he's no wussy boy.
Jug Ears looks a bit stressed there. Rick Perry is giving him an earful. What happened was Bammy Boy was visiting Texas probably to raise money. Rick Perry went to meet him on the tarmac much to Bammy’s surprise

“I have no loyalties. My vote can be lobbied by the following three candidates: Rick Perry, Michele Bachmann or Rick Santorum.”
I’m with you on that-except Michele will need to lobby much harder. She kind of lost me with her hyperventilating on Gardisil back in September and continually treating Romney with kid gloves. Have to admit, she was much better in the last (ABC) debate. She went after Romney for the first time I can recall in any debate. But she still has a ways to go to win my support.
The two Ricks-I feel comfortable with either one of them, though at this point Perry seems more able to win. Santorum needs to really show us something in Iowa. A top 3 finish would be a good surprise showing and give him some momentum.
