Lots of news stories today about how the race to win Iowa is still wide open. The New York Times Nate Silver takes a whirl through the polling data and says any of five candidates could plausibly win. And Politicos Maggie Haberman reports that internal poll numbers from the Mitt Romney and Rick Perry camps show Newt Gingrichs lead in Iowa is indeed slipping.
Interestingly, she also quotes a veteran GOP caucus-watcher as saying:
Watch Rick Perry. Hes going for a top three finish, and that could be to Romneys expense.
Weve found ourselves wondering about Perry, whos kicking off a 42-city Iowa bus tour today. Notably, two recent Iowa polls have shown a slight uptick in Perrys support. In particular, an American Research Group (ARG) poll released yesterday (Tuesday) showed him gaining 8 points...
...And despite some intense Internet mockery, Perrys Strong ad - where he criticizes the fact that gay soldiers can serve openly in the military while children cant celebrate Christmas in school - may be generating some traction in the state.
In particular, Decoder is now wondering if the ads appeal was actually two-fold - going beyond Christian conservatives to another potentially powerful voting bloc: veterans...

What mylife said, “March 6.” It may or may not be critical by then. However, it’s early enough that it could make a difference.
El Paso
One can only hope. A top three would be a huge victory for Governor Rick.
Bachmann and Santorum will most likely be gone by then, so I'm marking you down as a Perry vote. :)
Sure hope so. It’s starting to look good.
Kind of funny using that graphic. If you remember, Rommel (or at least “Rommel’s plan”) was in the process of getting his ass kicked when Patton says that. Hmmm...
If they are gone by then, you can mark me down as a Perry vote. That’s a given at that point.
500-700 folks the last I heard!
I actually liked Perry’s.
Generally there is a nominee long before they get to our vote.
I like them all. They are all very funny.
There is a subtle irony to it, but Patton isn't running for President. :)
Patton was complimenting Rommel on his strategy and tactics, IIRC. "Rommel, you magnificent bastard, I read your book!"
If we don’t have a clear nominee and Perry’s still haning around, chalk me up then. If it’s Gingrich and Romney, I’ll have to hold my nose and vote.
IF you'd rather NOT be pinged FReepmail me.
IF you'd like to be added FReepmail me. Thanks.

Perry was one of the Reagan Democrats, he voted for Reagan both times.
And I poo’d in space!
LOL
Then you are smart enough to know a Conservative when you see one.
I agree.
But I’m voting for Perry!
If by the time to get here to Texas, we’re down to Gingrich, Romney and Perry, it’s a no-brainer at that point.
