Ron Paul, the once-forgotten presidential candidate, is picking up steam in Iowa and now appears poised to overtake frontrunner Newt Gingrich, according to a new survey released today from the left-leaning Public Policy Polling.
The poll finds support for Gingrich has slipped to 22%, with Ron Paul just behind with 21%. Mitt Romney trails in third place with 16%.
That's a five-point drop in favorability for Gingrich, who has raced to the top of the Republican presidential field over the past month. PPP found Gingrich's favorability numbers have fallen 19 points over the past week.
Meanwhile, support for Paul is on the rise, particularly among younger voters and voters who identify themselves as "new." Among likely caucus-goers under age 45, Paul leads Gingrich 30-16. The numbers are nearly flipped for caucus-goers over age 45.

The President thanks you for your support.
Romney? Are you serious? Obama lite
Newt the Political Pinata, just packed with nasty stuff that's already coming undone and whose stinky, ugly history would be all over the floor before we ever got to the Convention?
Bachmann, Perry, Huntsman, Santorum -- a few internal sprinters but who who just can't generate the sustained energy even within the Party, let alone outside of it?
So where is the energy to win, no matter how weak Obama is?
So far this has been a Turtle (Ron Paul) and a Hare (The Others) race -- the Turtle everyone ignores, insults & derides because he's been no immediate threat to anyone, meanwhile he's been gaining ground and not losing it
As unbelievable as it sounds -- it just could be that the Turtle is winning. And if The Turtle can beat Obama -- and I think that he can -- we are in for a big clean up in DC on both sides of the aisle that well may be long overdue. A return to Constitutional principles and sound money are our only way out, because without them, we are more dangerous to ourselves than any terrorist could ever be to us.
>> Although it may seem contradictory, nuclear weaponry is the greatest assurance of peace in history. >>
Now THATS brilliant. Of course, you might want to consider that WHO has nukes is just a tad bit important.
Wow, that’s foreign policy straight out of the DNC.
I like Ron Paul and have never voted for a democrat.
Save one time when I voted dem to get rid of Cynthia McKinney.
Loved being a malicious crossover :)
And Zig-Zag...
:-))

"Today" is the key. I've been watching Rassmusen bounce all over the place in the last year. They are always days & weeks behind the curve. It's a useful snapshot of a moment, but that's it. Newt was trouncing everyone in Iowa a week ago -- now he's in a dead heat.
With the speed of information today, these polls are just not as reliable as they once were. Rsamussen took weeks for Cain to show the beginnings of a slide downward and by that time, he was already in the ditch and suspended his campaign.
I was not aware. I do apologize.
Paul is on the bottom of my long list.
Here’s the secret of Ron Paul’s success: Millennials don’t want to fight stupid neocon foreign wars to spread democracy and women’s rights in the Middle East much less spend the rest of their lives paying for them.
Didn’t North Korea develop nukes under Bush?
“As backwards as that theory seems to me, can you tell me how he is not conservative? How is he not Tea Party?”
Because he is a libertarian: blame America isolationist foreign policy, embraces dope smoking, sympathizes with the OWS parasites, panders to wacko conspiracy theory nuts, earmark loving.
Note the recent Gallop poll that shows the Tea Party has little use for him.
How many hundreds of those type pictures have you been assigned?
I think that you just hit a very complex nail on the head in one single sentence. Impressive!
The scary part is that Baby Boomers are discovering that they may have raised children and grandchildren with more common sense than they have.
Awww, that’s so cute. A Paulbot responding to a funny picture with a lame insult.
How unlike the Paul cultists! LOL
Ron Paul is a great representative. He should just be happy doing that.
