A survey of 12 swing states that Barack Obama carried in 2008 now finds the president losing to both Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich there.
USA Today-Gallup -- polling registered voters in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin -- found Obama trailing Romney 43-48, and Gingrich 45-48.
Because Obama is expected to hold the big states of California, New York and Illinois, he maintains a popular-vote advantage nationwide, where he leads Gingrich 50-44, and edges Romney 47-46.
But the Electoral College math would deliver the White House to Republicans if they can carry the swing states, as the USA Today-Gallup poll shows.
Even more heartening for the GOP is the poll's methodology. Surveys of "registered" tend to artificially inflate Democratic numbers. Scientific samplings of "likely voters" tend to produce more conservative, and accurate, outcomes.
Florida, REP, Iowa, REP, Nevada, REP, Virginia, REP, North Carolina, REP, New Hampshire, REP
Michigan, DEM, New Mexico, DEM, Wisconsin, DEM, Pennsylvania, DEM, Ohio, DEM. Colorado, DEM.
Bush - Ohio, - Colorado + Iowa.
REP - 249
DIM - 287
I’m not sure why these numbers are good ones. These are bad numbers.
You could probably include New Mexico and at least one of the districts in Maine under such a scenario as well. Maybe even Minnesota and Oregon.
Several of those states now have R govs and state legislature majorities. They damned well better tighten up and/or enforce their voter registration and voting laws, or their dearly departed and miscellaneous strays will be voting.
What I observed in VA in ‘08 was appalling. OFA troops went to VA colleges and registered students from New York, New Jersey, New England to vote here in violation of VA law. I suspect the same thing happened in NC. Their votes weren’t needed at home, but could sure help ‘swing’ VA in his direction. And they did. Then-gov Kaine was just fine with that. His reward was chairmanship of the DNC. Isn’t life grand?
Only against “Generic Republican.”
Put a name in there (like Gingrich or Romney) and I bet the picture changes - substantially!
This fight is uphill all the way.
Do these fugures include the massive Voter Fraud that Holder will justify in his speech today?
Read it again - the polls were specific to Newt and Mitt.
Fraud needs to be fought tooth and nail...
WooooHOOO! That IS good news!
Its still uphill all the way, though.
As it should be. Red is red and blue is blue. I’m really tired of these pinkos defining us. Too bad I live in one of the red “red’ states.
The NCO corps is being downsized, too. The ostensible reason is to cut costs by trimming manpower. But the net effect will be the same... junior to mid-level NCO's are out.
When faced with internal polling showing a humiliating defeat to the GOP candidate I have said and still say that Barry will bow out. I seriously doubt he will even end up as the Democratic candidate for 2012.
Someone needs to tell him that the country doesn’t deserve him, and that he’s destined for something bigger.
Yes. As far as I know Barry is eligible to run for President in Kenya. I’d be glad to make a campaign donation. LOL!!
Cut the cities off and watch ‘em burn. Nothing in, nothing out.
“Good thing the U.S. military is on our side!”
I hope you are correct.
Not much point in calling them “swing States”.
Obama has been working like crazy to get the military on his side. He and his family pay plenty of attention to them.
Bobo loses both the popular and electoral vote in 2012.
