The U.S. Supreme Court has been asked to weigh-in on immigration. The state of Arizona is requesting that the court allow enforcement of those parts of Arizona's immigration measure that have been blocked by lower courts at the Obama administration's request. Among those provisions is one that requires police, while enforcing other laws, to question a person's immigration status if officers suspect he is in the country illegally.

republicans are playing this wrong. SB1070 should be justified as public safety legislation. mexican drug violence is spilling over the border. americans are being killed. to oppose SB1070 is to tie the hands of local law enforcement in the face of drug thugs.
then let’s see what eric holder and the obama campaign have to say.

"Obamas lawyers had urged the court to steer clear of the dispute, but the justices instead agreed to hear Arizonas contention that states have leeway to question and detain illegal aliens.
"Justice Elena Kagan, formerly Obamas solicitor general, said she would sit out the case.
"The justices instead said they will hear the case of Arizona vs. United States and are likely to set the arguments for April. The courts eventual ruling is likely to determine the fate of similar immigration laws adopted in the past year by Alabama, Georgia, Indiana, South Carolina and Utah."

FOXNEWS: Supreme Court says it will rule on challenges to Arizona's controversial law targeting illegal immigrants I wonder if this ruling will be an indicator on how the SCOTUS will rule on the fed govt mandating we buy a product. It seems to me both cases involve the 10th Amendment.

I would imagine we will be seeing Alabama, Georgia, etc etc signing on to this case also as their laws are very similar and facing the same challenges.
At the very least I would expect Amicus briefs from the state AGs.

This could have far reaching consequences. Not the least is if they rule against Arizona and that in turn encourages the states to propose and pass a new amendment to the Constitution boosting their rights vs. the Feds.

FOXNEWS: Supreme Court says it will rule on challenges to Arizona's controversial law targeting illegal immigrants.1. The Supreme Court should be renamed the Glacial Court considering that the speed at which it moves would do any glacier proud.
2. Like the other branches of the federal government, the Supreme Court is all about consolidating federal power, so don't expect this to turn out the way we hope.
