DNC says Tea Party fits Newt Gingrich to a Tea - Gingrich is the 'original Tea Partier'
NY Daily News ^ | Dec 11, 2012 | BY ALISON GENDAR

President Obama's attack dogs have a new target — Newt Gingrich.

The Democratic National Committee on Sunday released a campaign ad that tags Gingrich as the “original Tea Partier.”

The ad hit the Internet less than four hours after Gingrich showed he could take the heat as the latest Republican front-runner during Saturday’s GOP primary debate in Iowa.

Gingrich’s foes warned his temper would erupt under a combined grilling from his opponents and the media.

But he didn’t self-destruct, and so became the latest target of the Obama re-election campaign, which until now had reserved its ammo for Mitt Romney.

“I want to invite you to a party — a Tea Party,” a smiling Gingrich says in the DNC video.

The ad tags Gingrich’s positions — from calling in 1984 to privatize Social Security, to seeking to end Medicare in 1995 to protecting tax loopholes in 2011.

“Newt Gingrich was a Tea Party politician , even before there was a Tea Party,” DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz said in a post-debate statement.

Gingrich polling so far shows he’s been able to fend off attacks on his record, including sniping from fellow Republicans, who argue Gingrich has shown himself to be temperamentally unsuited to be in the White House.

Newt Gingrich, Tea Party favorite - anyone for tea?

The DNC actually did Newt a huge favor here, because, actually, his Tea Party bona fides is not all that well-established (regardless of recent support by Tea Partiers).

Saying it doesn’t make it so, but it does help by pushing Newt to accept that moniker as a badge of honor and, more importantly, to push him farther along in his understanding of what it means to *us,* the Tea Party.

A most important point. None of us should lose sight of the imperative of electing as many Tea Party Republicans as possible up and down the ticket.

Wouldn’t hurt to hear Gingrich educate a few Freepers about that same thing actually......

I think it's the other way around.

As Speaker, Newt and his new Republican Revolution after 40 years of Democrat domination cut the deficit, cut the taxes, reformed welfare, balanced the budget four years running, blocked HillaryCare, stymied President Clinton, and extended the soaring Reagan Economy through the nineties. Not bad for a “RINO.” And he’s admitted the couch deal was a dumb idea.

That video shows exactly how Newt would eviscerate Obama. The interviewer could not wait to away from Newt as Newt was handing him his head. I am now at the point where I have to say “Go Newt”. That video was great.

Merry Christmas, Newt.

Man, the DNC is out of touch or maybe they are too busy Occupying Wall Street and shaking them down for donations.

OMG that is a FABULOUS VIDEO! I know a lot of the Newt haters are probably Palin fans and think that those two are mutually exclusive. NOT

And this shows why Newt is surging. He’s not only the best at knocking back Obama - he is the best at defending other Republicans. That was one of the most passionate defenses of Sarah Palin that I’ve ever heard. He took that dumb reporter to school.

Shame on those who don’t recognize that either. (they should look at your video link).

Right on the money! And I think Newt debating Obama and a lot of good tea party candidates running for congress would work very well together as Newt eviscerated the Obama Occupy vision of America in favor of the Tea Party vision in the head line debates.

Never in Michelle’s First Lady Hood have I been so excited about our country.....

This little ad is peanuts and balloons compared to what is coming. Winter is here and all is snow bells, but if money talks, and we have learned that it does, the Marxists have it to spend and will buy some noise and trouble when spring comes. The democrats who dumped Hillary are going to have to step up to the plate, maybe risk their life and fortune to help stop this machine.

Fortunately for Newt, they may not be able to damage his family, since there are some liberal elements to those close to him.

Who can defend Newt better than Newt? He will be living on the ropes before long and awfully busy defending himself, his family and his friends around the clock, so it’s best that he speak up now on the points of his platform and his agenda for the future. Somehow, Newt seems to be the only one of all the candidates who has the experience to perhaps hold up, under the coming onslaught.

I certainly hope he makes it. Prayers up.

How long before that totally dishonest “Wither on the Vine” stuff gets recycled by the Democrats?

This big mouth bimbo thinks that her diatribe will cause the TEA party to turn toward mittens?

This will only increase the Newt's numbers. What a dope.

“...- blaming mankind for global warming, and calling for the Cap and Tax fraud. I will not forget his bad judgment on that - and no apology will bring me around. That kind of very bad judgment needs to be kept FAR from the White House.”

Amen, and add to the bad judgement list Newt’s endorsement of Alvin & Heidi Toffler’s book: “The Third Way” which advocated blending communism with capitolism.

Anyone in favor of that is unfit to hold any office in this country. I distinctly remember the press conf. Newt held where he did exactly that when he was elected Speaker.

I have a very hard time thinking of Gingrich as a member of the TEA party. Perhaps as a CongressCritter, he sort of fits the bill—but his personal life is certainly a mess.

Whatever, if he gets the nomination, I’ll vote for him.

The Tea Party in my part of Texas, did not attract a congregation of holy people. It attracted a mob of rebelling and angry people tired of DC corruption and abuse of power.

This campaign commercial is supposed to make elderly people afraid of Newt and the Tea Party. Newt will take away your social security! It will work if Republicans are not careful.

It looks like the DNC is determined to make the donks the new stupid party.

I hope they keep saying this kind of stuff, this will make Reagan's victory against Carter seem like it was close.
