DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- Republican presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich says he is being factually accurate when he calls the Palestinians an "invented" people and says they are the creation of anti-Israel propaganda.
Gingrich's chief rival for the presidential nomination, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, says the former House speaker has made a mistake in the description and has made it more difficult for Israelis and Palestinians to negotiate toward peace.

Newt backed the truth as to what he said, and to the LSM, that is a bad thing.
Newt gets a lot of brownie points for telling the truth about Palestine and rejecting the notion that the president of the United States has to call and ask somebody before he makes a statement. Mitt really flubbed that one.
“Zahir Muhsein said this in 1977: The Palestinian people does not exist.”
Great quote! Thanks.
>> Newt is right and Mitt is wrong.
Mitt’s reply was feeble.
Milt’s little ten grand bet offer when Americans are out of work and the median income is less than three times that bet, showed he is a smelly elitist in an instant of reality. I just hope the media doesn’t spin it for him ‘cause we know they want him up against their little barry bassturd demigod.
BTW Romney, I believe Bibi said the same thing in a speech he gave at the UN a few years ago.
It’s the truth, Mitt.
Mitt's bet will reverberate across the country on talk radio this week.
He's just put himself in bed with the 1% crowd, the ones the OWS people despise.
Was Mitt trying to impress everybody with the number 10,000, or was it to him like a $5 bet for us?
Either way it was his "macaka" moment.
I'm leaning in Newt's direction but after my love affair with Sarah {I dumped her, she didn't drop me, heh, heh} then my Hermanator experience, I'm taking my time on this one.
In watching the debate tonight, the only two on the stage that I couldn't really go for are paul and mittens.
The other 4 are OK.
I loved how Newt made the point that Reagan’s state department wanted him to take out his “Mr. Gorbachav, tear down this wall” part of his speech and Reagan refused.
Like Reagan, Newt favors truth over political correctness.
Newt is right. Too bad he has never said anything like this before, and I can’t know whether or not he actually believes it, since this is just one of 4-5 ultra-pro-Israel statements he has SUDDENLY made in the past week.
Noot is going to fool around and have ME in his corner..
Not that I have any choice.. course I didn’t and still don’t like George Bush..
There something serious wrong with George Bush.. Noots no angel either..
That may win him applause with red meat ready base. But, these statements are irrational. They advance no interest of the US.
The occupants of Pallywood came from Jordan and Egypt.
Thus, the so-called ‘palestinians’ are actually JORDYPTIANS.
Newt is and has always been a Reaganite. And a knowledgeable, accomplished student of history.
Yes they do. They delegitimize the 'palestinian' terrorists and their left-wing, anti-semetic supporters.
The so-called Palestinians are trying to pull a fast one via the UN.
Agree with that. But many other candidates have made such pronouncements (ex. moving embassy to Jerusalem) and then punted when the time came. But that can be said of all the candidates - except Romney. Hopefully Mittens' disgraceful comments about "Palestinians" will finally cause his numbers to plummet with the base.
Newt 1, Mitt 0.
Newt 1, Mitt 0.
