Merry Christmas, altura!

Yep, Rick Perry would be my fallback guy — been giving this a lot of consideration for months now, and he’s the only one besides Newt who has gone UP in my estimation. Bachmann’s been a big disappointment, tends to sound mean and plays loose with the truth. Tonight she was trawling for Cain supporters, too, though she wasn’t very pleasant to Cain while he was running. Santorum is always off-key somehow, and has not made the case for himself at all. Romney gave everybody another reason to dislike him: he said that speaking truth is “throwing bombs.”
Perry’s had time to show people that there is no meanness in him, no phoniness, no ambiguity; these are things we discern gradually. Conservative principles, we all grasp instantly, but character takes longer to get across.

>>Why do people think Obama is such a great orator?

>>Because the MSM told us he is?
>>Obama cant talk to 4th graders without a teleprompter.
>>Even with a teleprompter this clown screws stuff up.

The problem is that people don’t even recognize the “great” technique that Obama uses to answer questions - circumlocution.

All ANY republican has to do is ask Obama “Can you answer a question in less than 100 words?”

All Obama has done since day one with a difficult answer is say, “Well let me redirect that question into a more important factor that I believe the American people are more interested in...(3min later) and so with the pain that the middle class is feeling, it’s natural for us to... (3 min later) so when Republicans challenge the help that the government is giving those who don’t have as much as others ... (3 minutes later), so yes I agree.”

Obama talks eye-glazing lawyer speak for 10 minutes until the final minute, when he finally addresses the question.

Newt WON! imagine the tremendous pressure he STOOD up to!!!

I am still not liking certain things about Newt, but that was one hell of a pressure cooker that Snuffleupagus and Sawyer tried to throw Newt into tonight with the fidelity question and inviting the other candidates to dogpile on him. It gives me more confidence in him, and I see where Jim Robinson and others are coming from when they say Newt has gone the distance since the Reagan years and can handle any of the pressure.

If Newt was going to crack under pressure it would have been tonight, and he threw it right back in the moderators faces and came out looking better. I can't see any of the other candidates standing up under that pressure - most of them have gotten rattled under far less pressure.

It's ironic since Ron Paul probably gave the best answer out of any of the candidates during that phase of the debate when he talked about the oath of office and turned the question away from the moderators inviting the candidates to dogpile on Gingrich.

I may not be as big of a fan of Newt as many others, but I have 100% confidence that he can handle anything the libs and Obama can throw at him.

This is going to put the libs/MSM in panic mode though, more so than when Cain was rising, because they were clearly looking to take Newt down with that question.

It’s important to remember that the majority of leftist propaganda isn’t directed at US, or any other thinking person, for that matter.

It’s directed at the squishy 20% in the middle, who get their news from Oprah, The View, or the network radio news, on the way home from work during Rush Hour.

Sorry to say I run into those people on a daily basis. It is sad.

I did. In fact, one's self is the only person any individual can speak for, including Perry.

However, most of what I have seen and heard in the last six months is the motivated flurry of Perry supporters doing all the explaining for Perry rather than Perry delivering his intended message the first time with clarity and confidence.

It would be simple for Governor Perry and would go a long way toward helping him win the nomination and the White House, if only Perry would consider enlisting the help of a public speaking coach.

Like it or not, we're in the age of mass communication. President Reagan set the standard for Conservative communicators.

It's not about any speech impediment, nor about accents nor even the pronunciation problems President Bush sometimes seemed to have.

Yet President Bush had so much confidence and ability to speak on his feet that his occasional missteps in speaking were always overshadowed by Bush's message delivered with confidence directly to each individual listener.

Perry certainly has the education, the intelligence and the resources and it is never too late.

Yet time is running out. It would be a shame if Governor Perry missed his chance to help all of our great Nation from the White House.

Understand. I just thought it was a better format for really getting at the crux of what each candidate stood for.

He apologized the next day. I may have even called your attention to it. But, that's ok, keep harping on the same old tired things.

Who is your candidate now? Still shopping?

Lol, pretty hard to ‘catch up’ on a debate thread but I am proud of Rick Perry. He was great tonight and got some rounds of applause.

Those who criticize his slow speech must be unfamiliar with other ‘cowboy’ types like John Wayne and you even reminded me that Reagan had the slower speech. They are used to ‘fast talkers’ and fast talkers can slip things past you.

Obama is thin skinned and he makes many pauses and ‘ahh’s’ when he talks. I also think he would get flustered when someone refutes what he says, when someone criticizes what he’s done or hasn’t done.

IMHO: Newt won this debate for not screwing up in his answers, and Mitt lost this debate for failing to TKO Newt. Observations: What was Newt looking down at, when looking at Mitt as Mitt was speaking? Was Newt looking at Mitt’s hand gestures, or was Newt looking at something else? Also, I found it amusing that the majority of candidates had a red background, while Mitt had a blue background, instead.

At least I’ll give the Perry worshippers credit for not allowing Reality to plague them.

Quote of the week.
Thank you. :)

Even Bibi voices his willingness to negotiate—with certain preconditions, e.g., the other side recognizes Israel’s right to exist.

Have those preconditions actualized?

Newt attempts to confuse and fool people that because the illegals don't get a path to citizenship that this is not an amnesty.

Yes, Newt takes a page out of GW's book in that regard. Just because a plan isn't a citizenship amnesty, doesn't mean that it still isn't an amnesty.

It is.

It's just not a full blown Reagan type of citizenship amnesty.

As far as the mainstream goes, ABC did a good job tonight. Despite the few zingers, the mods were polite, did not interrupt, and provided latitude

They were deliberately trying to knock Newt out of the race with a few of the questions and were encouraging other candidates to dogpile on Newt. Those were not random questions - they were looking to take out Newt.

Any debate where liberals are encouraging Republicans to attack one another is not a good debate.

>>Winner: Newt - The line of the night was by far the “Ted Kennedy” line. That stung.

That and the terrorism “How does he know?” question. The only reason a Palestinian would say that is because he will USE NEWTS COMMENT to create terrorists.

Newt did really well.
