NAACP taking grievances against voter ID laws to the UN, claiming discrimination

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is taking its racial grievances against America to the United Nations this weekend.

On Saturday the NAACP will offer evidence of what it considers a coordinated effort to disenfranchise black and Latino voters in a racist attempt to limit minority voting.

According to the civil rights group, NAACP President Benjamin Jealous and NAACP Legal Defense Fund voting rights attorney Ryan Haygood will present findings from their recent report “Defending Democracy: Confronting Modern Barriers to Voting Rights in America.”

“It’s been more than a century since we’ve seen such a tidal wave of assaults on the right to vote. Historically, when voting rights are attacked, it’s done to facilitate attacks on other rights. It is no mistake that the groups who are behind this are simultaneously attacking very basic women’s rights, environmental protections, labor rights, and educational access for working people and minorities,” Jealous said in a statement. “Voting rights attacks are the flip side of buying a democracy. First you buy all the leaders you can, and then you suppress as many votes as possible of the people who might object.”

The report alleges that there is a systemic effort to restrict the number of minority voters this election cycle, via new state measures such as enhanced voter identification laws, tougher residency requirements and provisions that put limits on voting periods and restrictions on voting registration drives.

“In all, 14 states have passed 25 various measures designed to restrict or limit the ballot access of voters of color, threatening to disfranchise millions of people, a disproportionate number of whom are people of color,” the report reads.

Gee, does this mean driver's licenses are,*gasp*, RACIST? Not just the NAACP, but laRatza, unions and all the other usual suspects. I got some "freinds" of mine to sign their petition, and they have more, shall we say, interesting names than Ben Jealous.

Time for Eric the Holder to bring a lawsuit against the U.N. Taking discrimination complaints is the federal government’s job. It is unconstitutional for a foreign entity to take the complaints.

The bottom line here is that they want to be allowed to vote numerous times without negative consequences. I can guarantee you that if one of these characters goes into a bank with a welfare check and ID is required to cash the check, that ID will quickly come forth.

The republicans should attempt to pass a law where no bank, no pharmacy, and no business can require a photo ID for anything...called the Fairness in ID bill.

I wonder how many UN nations require a photo ID for their citizens, and if they even have a vote that means anything.

If these ‘usual suspects’ of The Race Industry feel so strongly, why don’t they use their bottomless pockets to get the proper IDs for all these poor oppressed minorities instead of wasting money on lawyers’ fees?

Funny, It is perfectly OK to require proper PHOTO ID to rent a car, check into a hotel/motel, cash or pay by check, buy tonight’s supper with a check or credit card, require a PHOTO driver’s license, buy an airline ticket, buy merchandise and pay by check, take out a library book, apply for a carry permit, register a car, or any of life’s other normal activities.
But to require a legal and proper, normally obtainable without cost, ID is now deemed “racist”, “unconstitutional”, bigoted, politically incorrect, and basically “not nice.”
No POLL TAX, no LITERACY TEST, no land ownership requirement, just a simply Photo ID is now deemed a threat to the sanctity of our electoral process. What out and out CRAP. SO the NAACP goes to the ultimate protector of Human Rights.....the UN.

Eric Holder’s people have a civil right to vote on as many fraudulent voter registrations as they can create.

NAACP directed UN coming to a voting center near you in the near future.

Could start a real shooing war. There are some in this country that have an even lower opinion of the UN than the NAACP. Then the UN invades the US with troops from all over the (third) world. Financed by the US with money borrowed from China.
I may puke.

There is fraud, then also a lot of people have outstanding warrants or other problems and can’t get ID due to criminal issues.
In other words, they shouldn’t be voting, no discrimination involed here at all.
Every state would let some broke person get a state ID if they want one as long as they exist and are not wanted for something illegal.

Gimme a break... the average driver's license renewal/state ID- usable for multiple years- probably costs, what, $35 or less?

Even assuming a costlier fee of $100... that amounts to the horrific amount of less than .07 cents a day for an average license available for 4 years.

Jim Crow! Blatant racism!...

Can I ask a stupid question?

If these liberal groups feel that these voter ID laws are “discriminatory” and all that, why are they going to the UN?? Why wouldn’t they go to the Justice Department, where a good Democrat, Eric Holder, would certainly lend a sympathetic ear to the cause, and would certainly take legal action?? The UN has no power to do anything about their complaints.

Or, is it possible that there is no legal issue involved here, and these people just want to vent?

But then again, where is the Obama administration and the Justice Department on this issue? These groups can’t claim that evil Republicans won’t give them a fair shake, because good Democrats are currently in charge of the Justice Department.

Voter Identification is required just about everywhere. Brazil stands alone in both tightening and loosening various restrictions simultaneously ~ apparently for the purpose of facilitating the use of computerized voting systems. But they have had photo ID in the past AND fingerprinting. They also make voting mandatory,

The legal issue was settled ~ the Supreme Court ruled that Indiana could require photo ID to vote.

End of story.
