Following a pattern established in previous hearings, today's House Judiciary Committee hearing produced fireworks from the Republicans and calls for more gun control from the Democrats. The grilling of Eric Holder climaxed at the very end of the day's proceedings, when Rep. Darrell Issa threatened the attorney general with contempt of Congress for his refusal to produce communications and logs, resulting in the embattled top law enforcement officer shooting back a line reminiscent of the McCarthy hearings:
"Have you no shame?"
Among some of the surprises: Holder was not sworn in as Issa had requested. Chairman Lamar Smith indicated the attorney general was already technically under oath.
Per Holder, no one lied.
'It all has to do with your state of mind and whether or not you had the requisite intent to come up with something that would be considered perjury or a lie," he said in reply to a line of questioning by Rep. James Sensenbrenner.
"If we don't get to the bottom of this — and that requires your assistance on that — there is only one alternative that Congress has, and it's called impeachment," Sensenbrenner threatened.
Holder adamantly refused to resign when asked if he would, nor would he indicate anyone else had done anything to merit resignation.
One of the more outrageous abuses of time to stump for gun control instead of determine the truth came from Rep. Hank Johnson of Georgia, who began with the statement that "There is a hole in our gun control laws that is so large that you could drive or fly a space shuttle through it. And it's called the gun show loophole. And so we've got gun shows, thousands of gun shows per year being held throughout America. And we've got untold numbers of licensed gun dealers

Thursday, December 8, 2011, immediately following the introduction of Attorney General Eric Holder prior to his testimony before the Fast and Furious Committee of Oversight & Government Reform, Darrell Issa requested that Holder be sworn under oath before any testimony began.
This request was apparently in response to Issa’s belief that Holder had in the past misled or lied to the committee and Issa’s desire that if Holder dared again to evade, mislead or tell any direct falsehoods that Holder be held accountable

Issa’s request was denied but not until he was assured that Eric Holder had received a letter prior to his appearance that made it clear to Holder that his testimony was under oath and would be subject to all criminal charges.
Immediately, Michelle Malkin tweeted:

Jim Sensenbrenner picked up the Issa banner and skewered Holder with the reminder that “Lying to Congress is a federal felony,” adding that “obviously, there have been statements so misleading that a letter had to be withdrawn.”
“Nobody in the Justice Department has lied!” fired back Holder.
Sensenbrenner scoffed, “What’s the difference between lying and misleading this Congress?”
Legally, explained Holder, “It all has to do with intent.”
Yes, as someone has already answered. And it is worth noting that he is from Cynthia “Jihad” McKinney’s old district, which should tell you something about Hank’s average voter.
Once talk of these hearings began I predicted that the Obama Administration pukes would squawk about being victims of "McCarthyism."
The new HUAC except this time it's Holder's Un-American Activities Cabal (HUAC).
If the intent of the lying is to protect the liar it is acceptable. What in the world is Holder saying?
Holder knows he is protected - unless they go all the way and impeach/remove/jail Obama, nothing will happen to Holder.
Just for the record because I mentioned Senator McCarthy and the House Committee on Un-American Activities above: HCUA is connected to Senator McCarthy only to the extent that CP/USA and the pinko com-symps railed against both and targeted both for destruction. HUAC is of course a pejorative term coined by CP/USA to imply a House UnAmerican Activities Committee (HUAC).
Of course the likes of wiki-graffiti prefer HUAC but I believe that wiki-graffiti at least mentions the real name for the committee.
I recall watching in 1953 when Edward R. Murrow loosed the MSM on Senator Joe McCarthy stating that they had nothing to fear, just destroy him (I do not recall the exact wording but the meaning was clear.)
Which is why they sympathize with radical Islam.
To the LEFT, truth is whatever serves their purpose. Holder means it when he says “it all depends on your state of mind.” If you’re a radical revolutionary trying to destroy the United States from within, disarm the population, and impose serfdom on everyone, Fast and Furious makes perfect sense. Lying is just a tool.
That hearing was Jackson Lee and Waters rudely interrupting and all the dems promoting gun show regs while Holder squirmed and lied and used Clintonspeak and I DON’T RECALL.
