Supreme Court to settle election district scuffle in Texas as a map signed by Rick Perry is accused of diluting minority voting power
Texas March primary will likely be delayed after the U.S. Supreme Court on Friday blocked the use of state legislative and congressional district maps that were drawn by federal judges.
The court issued a brief order late Friday that applies to electoral maps drawn by federal judges in San Antonio for the Texas Legislature and Congress that would have ensured minorities made up the majority in three additional Texas congressional districts.
The justices said they will hear arguments on January 9th, likely delaying the scheduled March voting primaries that would use the maps, to the end of May.
The judges issued the new maps for the 2012 election in Texas after a lawsuit was filed in San Antonio over redistricting maps drawn by the GOP-led Legislature.
The maps were to remain in place until the lawsuit was resolved.
The Supreme Courts order brings to a halt filing for legislative and congressional primary elections that began November 28.
....In the second of two separate court cases in the redistricting fight, a federal court in Washington has refused to approve the Legislatures redistricting plan without a trial, agreeing with the Justice Department that there was sufficient evidence to question whether it hurt minority representation.
Like other states with a history of racial discrimination, Texas cant implement new maps or other changes to voting practices without federal approval under the 1965 Voting Rights Act.
The state asked a court in Washington to sign off on the maps, but those judges refused.
That case is continuing......

You mean the fellow appointed U.S. district judge by President George W. Bush? That guy?
Who appointed the unknown liberal Democrat attorney Xavier Rodriguez to the bench ?
ANSWER THE QUESTION.
You sound like a prosecutor.
Refresh my memory — you worked for a time in Texas for a state agency if I recall[?]. I could have you confused with another anti-Perry post.
“Prior to assuming the bench, he was a partner in the international law firm of Fulbright & Jaworski. Rodriguez was appointed to the Texas Supreme Court in 2001 by Governor Rick Perry. He was defeated for election in the Republican primary in 2002. His challenger was Steven Wayne Smith. Rodriguez outspent Smith $558,000 to $9,500.
After his defeat, Rodriguez returned to private practice briefly before being appointed to the Federal District Court for the Western District of Texas in San Antonio by President George W. Bush.”

You’ve been exposed as an unrepentant liar, madam. You have the nerve to write about judicial activism for which the judge in question is Rick Perry’s boy. His appointee.
Fact #1: Xavier Rodriguez was an unknown liberal Democrat attorney when he was brazenly placed on the Texas Supreme Court by liberal race-panderer Rick Perry in 2001.
Fact #2: Conservative Steven Wayne Smith beat liberal Democrat posing as a Republican Justice Xavier Rodriguez in the 2002 primary over the visceral opposition of Rick Perry.
Fact #3: Rick Perry’s liberal Democrat protege posing as a Republican ex-Justice Xavier Rodriguez was given a LIFETIME appointment to the federal bench by his good buddy and former boss George W. Bush in 2003.
Fact #4: Rick Perry vociferously worked hard in 2004 (and again in 2006) to successfully defeat Conservative Justice Steven Wayne Smith in RETALIATION for defeating Rick Perry’s liberal Hispanic Democrat/FAUX Republican now-Federal Judge Xavier Rodriguez.
Fact #5: Rick Perry’s liberal Democrat protege masquerading as a Republican Federal Judge Xavier Rodriguez blatantly violated the law in ordering (along with an actual liberal Democrat-appointed judge) that a LEGAL and CONSTITUTIONAL method approved by the Texas Legislature on redistricting didn’t meet his PERSONAL political view and is attempting to illegally force almost a half-dozen DEMOCRAT Congressional candidates be all but anointed to office on the grounds of racial gerrymandering (in other words, mostly in an attempt to protect the Democrat party and place in mostly Hispanic Democrats, of which Rodriguez claims not to be, yet obviously is).
Fact #6: The millions of dollars in costs to the taxpayers of Texas on upending the upcoming primaries for this illegal farce can be laid squarely at the feet of RICK PERRY, for whom his personal protege and lackey for extremist racial supremacist groups like La Raza, is well represented.
I think the taxpayers of Texas should know exactly who got the ball rolling on this fiasco, and whose political protege on the federal bench made it all possible. Rick Perry and Xavier Rodriguez (with “honorable” mention for George W. Bush).
I see you’ve called forth your vicious posting partners.
Did you work for the state of Texas at one point?
KLTV's Annette Falconer talks with one east Texas baker, who can't wait to start her baking business.
It's the day that can't come too soon for baker, Stephanie Frazier.
"September first you'll hear me calling around saying, hey, would you like a cookie?", says Frazier.
Governor Perry signed the "Bakers Bill", allowing bakers like Fazier to sell their non-perishable goodies. ".....
Perry: Stand up and stop apologizingWe need to stop apologizing for celebrating life."
Stop apologizing for wanting to stem the tide of the entitlement mindset. Our opponents on the left are never going to like us, so lets stop trying to curry favor with them, he said, before imploring the crowd to stand up. Lets speak with pride about our values. Lets stop this American downward spiral. ....

Our senators. Rick Perry didn't have any say in President Bush appointing this activist to the federal bench.
And your suggestion that without this particular activist on the bench our redistricting maps would've sailed through without opposition is ABSURD.
Relevant Quote from My Cousin Vinny ..
Stan: Damn it, Vinnie! Maybe if you'd put up some kind of a fight, you could have gotten the case thrown out!In short, this is Texas. Ain't no way redistricting maps aren't gettin' opposed in court. So let's not pretend that this one judge held our redistricting fate in his hands alone. It's horsesh*t!Vinny Gambini: Hey, Stan, you're in Ala-f***in'-bama. You come from New York. You killed a good ol' boy. There is no way this is not going to trial!
Because our journey away from the Constitution has elevated them above being Judges and allowed them to pervert their will of the People as readily as any left-winger politician.
So, President Bush appointed Rodriguez to the bench.
(so that is 4 republicans that supported Rodriguez)
Rodriguez was confirmed by the Senate 7/31/2003 with a unanimous vote.
BTW: Off topic but interesting. Rodriguez's deceased father was a survivor of the allied invasion of Normandy.
Bill Clinton appointed Garcia to Federal Bench.
Ronald Reagon appointed Smith to Federal Bench.
Sorry, but the two Senators did not “appoint” an unknown liberal Democrat to the Texas Supreme Court as Rick Perry did. This was a “consolation prize” to make up for a Conservative beating him. If Rodriguez had never been appointed to the TXSC, he’d never have gone to the federal level. This is typical of RINOs appointing abominations to the bench and that these individuals have real consequences.
Your point about there being no challenge to the redistricting maps is a red herring. Those almost always occur these days... the issue is that a Perry-promoted appointee/protege who is an activist liberal Democrat is responsible for attempting via the bench to hijack and illegally install/force more Democrat left-wingers (La Raza types) into almost a half-dozen Congressional seats in Texas.
For Perry and his lying flunkies to wail and complain when his own “flunkie” made this possible takes the cake. Time to take responsibility.
Oh so people who challenge your lies are vicious?
You are pathetic. You were given a well reasoned reply and all you can do is attack who field pings.
Get used to it honey.
Which state agency did you work for in Texas?
I guess you, like the Bush family, have no time for conservative Texans.
No. I have no time for crony entrenched, entitled RINOs like Perry AND the Bushes. Funny, too, since Perry makes Bush look like a rocket scientist.
