What does the term “anchor baby” mean? If you were to look it up in the American Heritage Dictionary, you would find a new definition since last week.
The term was among some 10,000 new words and phrases in the fifth edition of the dictionary, published in November. It was defined as: “A child born to a noncitizen mother in a country that grants automatic citizenship to children born on its soil, especially such a child born to parents seeking to secure eventual citizenship for themselves and often other members of their family.”
But when Steve Kleinedler, the executive editor of the dictionary, read that definition during a radio interview last month, it troubled Mary Giovagnoli, the director of the Immigration Policy Center, a pro-immigration research group in Washington.

You are probably right. “and subject to the laws thereof” is the phrase in the 14th Amendment.
The law would offer the definition that children without at least one US citizen parent would not be subject to US law when their parents returned to their home of citizenship, and so such a child born in the US would not be eligible for birthright citizenship.
The law could, (note I do not say ‘should’) even make the same definition for children without two US citizen parents.
Currently in Title 18 of the US code there is a provision that children whose parentage is unknown and who is raised in the US from prior to the age of 5 years is be awarded US citizenship.

Cool, if this term is a,’slur’,, then whats the NEXT term to denote the same behavior for a few years until that one is frowned upon too? Though we change words every few years, we are trying to describe the same exact concept. Wetbacks became illegal aliens, illegals became undocumented,, (just missing those papers they never had) and now,, they are immigrants.

I am surprised that it took this long to show up in dictionaries. That is an old fashioned view of the “anchor baby” and one which involved a lot of patience to see to fruition. It’s also passe, and the new thing is the dragged-in illegale kid that you “can’t kick back out of the USA because he’d never survive in Mexico or Central America.” And of course the illegale parents have to stay for him or her. Instant anchor, and not even the dictionary has caught up.

If the father is a US citizen, the baby is not an anchor baby.
The only way to know if it really is an anchor baby. Is to throw it in the river and see if it sinks.

Free Hospital Emergency Room treatment, and Free Citizenship for Anchor Babies ARE the two major US Federal Government caused problems that help criminal, and illegal aliens ruin America.

I tend to dislike the term as well as it’s very misleading. It is an extremely ineffecient method to stabilize your craft, even in the calmest waters.

We further learn that we should carry lots of garbage bags and assist the "cross-border violators" in hauling out their trash and disposing of it properly. Further evidence that Border Patrol field operations have been hijacked by politically correct politicians. We are glad to know that the huge army of Border Patrol staff officer bureaucrats in D.C. are busy finding new ways to try to lobotomize rank-and-file agents so they can be transformed into politically correct robots who are afraid to make a decision or aggressively enforce the laws of this country. After all, too many arrests of "cross-border violators" would not look good for another massive amnesty program.

I never thoguht of it as a slur until this article. The baby had no choice as to the circumstances of its birth.
I can understand animus towards the parnets, but not the child.
