BREAKING: Grassley calls for Lanny Breuer’s resignation from DoJ(gunwalker)
Seattle Gun Rights Examiner ^ | 7 December, 2011 | Dave Workman

Posted on 12/09/2011 7:09:37 AM PST by marktwain

Senator Charles Grassley has called on Assistant Attorney General Lanny Breuer, who heads the Justice Department’s Criminal Division, to hand in his resignation over his apparent mishandling and misleading testimony about his involvement in the oversight of Operation Fast and Furious.

Speaking on the Senate floor, Grassley was blunt in his criticism of Breuer:

I’ve done oversight for many years, and in all that time, I don’t ever remember coming across a government official who so blatantly placed sparing agencies embarrassment over protecting the lives of citizens.

The full text of Grassley’s remarks can be found here.

Grassley, Ranking Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, has been dogging Operation Fast and Furious for more than ten months. He has been blistering in his criticism of Attorney General Eric Holder’s management of the Justice Department, and has accused the department of stonewalling his investigation of Fast and Furious, which was mounted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in the fall of 2009.

The Iowa senator’s remarks were not just limited to Fast and Furious. He mentioned an earlier ATF gun trafficking sting called Operation Wide Receiver, which also allowed guns to “walk” into the hands of suspected gunrunners. Grassley did not pull his punches:

He knew that the same Field Division was responsible for walking guns in a 2006-2007 case called Wide Receiver. But the real shock was how Mr. Breuer had responded within his own Department when that earlier gunwalking was first brought to his attention in April 2010. He didn’t tell the Attorney General.

He didn’t tell the Attorney General’s Chief of Staff.

He didn’t tell the Deputy Attorney General.

He didn’t tell the Inspector General.

Instead, he simply told his deputy to meet with ATF leadership

To the current administration, citizens are just expendibles. There hold on power is far, far more important.

From the lying testimony of Eric Holder yesterday, it is evident that Fast and Furious was an elaborate Obama set-up to tar the border state gun shop owners with being responsible for thousands of guns crossing the border to the drug cartels in Mexico. Then these Marxists and their fellow travelers in the media would have had an excuse to pass laws that would have in effect abolished the Second Amendment right to bear arms.

Of course, this pathetically inept bunch couldn’t pull it off, and the gun shop owners kept careful records of ATF purchases in their shops because they knew what this operation was really all about.

Holder and Obama should be impeached for causing the death of so many people simply to further the Marxist goal of disarming Americans.

Grassley is aiming way too low.

I agree, unless getting Breuer out of government exposes him to more pressure to roll over. I don't believe that's the case, because Congress isn't prosecutorial, and the Dems control the DOJ, so you are correct.

Taking out lesser supports makes it easier to take out the main structure.

They need threat of prosecution, not resignation, to get these dudes to sing.

Want to really get Obama’s attention...

We should start running adds on SPANISH radio...someone reading the names of the hundreds of F&F murdered Mexicans in the backround...whilst someone asks “Presidente Obama, why have you been running guns to the drug cartels?”(in Spanish)...or some such.

Brauer has been a shrill, dishonest hack since the Clinton days. If he’s dirty on this I wouldn’t mind seeing Obama toss him under the bus.

Hey, grassly, resignation ain’t enough, and assistants ain’t enough.

These people need to be in prison and sued for violating all of our civil rights with their little gun control scam that resulted in the death of inncoent people.

Grow some balls, chump.

That is a great idea. In order to run such an ad someone in the GOP would have to have a brain, a spine, and a willingness to spend some cash on something other than “Vote for me” yard signs.

In my years of working with Dem/socialists I have learned that many of them actually believe their own stereotype of gun owners and dealers. They have so often been exposed to movie/TV portrayals of gun use and politician/press statements about gun owners and gun dealers they actually believe much of the mythology and nonsense. For examples, they believe you can just walk in to a gun shop and buy machine guns and that there are virtually no controls on buying any kind of gun. This tends to make some of the socialists think that bending the law somewhat is nothing compared with the great danger they are trying to stop. The average socialist actually seems to think this way. Of course, such gross distortion of thinking leads to people, like those uncovered in the F&F hearings, doing horribly bad things while thinking their actions were excusable considering the mission they are serving—this is the kind of disaster that results from such distorted thinking and has been associated with social disasters many times in history. That is my theory.
My years associated with gun owners and gun dealers illuminates the extent of craziness in the socialists’ thinking.

I called my Congressman and Senators and demanded Holder’s impeachment and prosecution.

Called the offices of Issa, Sensabrenner, and Grassley to give them my gratitude and encouragement for fighting this blatant corruprtion and law breaking.
