Pretty obvious that unarmed Americans shouldn’t be spending any time near Iran or a host of other muslim nations.

I pray for this guy and his family.

I doubt if we’ve heard the whole story on this. How he came to engage on some job in Iran...has never been fully explained. I would imagine there is some type of Iranian ‘mafia’ connection to this whole story, but I can’t imagine how this would all connect up.

Why would anyone named Levinson go to any dangerous Islamist country for ANY reason?

If there have been demands from kidnappers over the year, why are we just hearing of this??? Something is strange.

I think the original story had to do with him investigating cigarette smuggling on Kish Island. And yes, there may be some sort of Iranian ‘mafia’ involvement, as well as speculation that Russian mafia may have tipped off the Iranians.

The story about him has been out there for yrs, but it is strange that they’ve taken so long to release this info about a video or photos.

If an ex-KGB agent was arrested, we would all assume it was espionage.

Continuously promoting Levinson as an ex-FBI agent only dooms his fate.

“...investigating cigarette smuggling ...”

Wow....Cigarette smuggling...crime of the century, for sure.

Call it by its correct name: mass murder.

Read up on Kish Island - lots of potential for criminal enterprises.

What the hell is an ex-FBI agent doing in Iran to begin with?
Levinson. Man: he should have known better.

When you retire you should spend some time with the family not go to Iran.

Iran. You couldn’t give me a free 1st. class ticket there as a gift even if $100,000 dollars came with it.

I hear ya, af_vet...but we’ve got a “criminal enterprise” going on right here, right now with this admin letting gun sales to mexican gangs and drug cartels go through. Murdered border patrol agents resulted from it.

My point, I guess, is that the FBI’s time would be better spent investigating those in our own gov who are doing this.

He was ex-FBI.
There were reports that he was working on private business and some have speculated that he may have been hired by Phillip Morris. I’ve never seen any confirmation of the Phillip Morris connection, but it does seem he was working outside the gov’t.

Do you think it means he's dead?

I don’t know. But it doesn’t necessarily have to mean that. It could be that they’ve reached a dead end and thought that revealing the video/photos might lead to new possibilities.

One thing people have been very slow to understand about the IRI and it’s hostages/kidnap victims.....keeping quiet about it is the worse thing you can do. The more noise & publicity it gets, the better the chances are that the victim will be returned and sooner rather than later.

This is true of most international hostage situations - but seems uniquely more so with Iranians. Odd.
