Newt Gingrich tells CNN's Wolf Blitzer he would consider Mitt Romney to be a potential running mate (VIDEO). The interview is very much in keeping with Gingrichs keep it classy campaign theme so far and he treaded lightly, sounding neither overly enthusiastic about a VP Romney nor overly displeased with the idea.
But why did he take the bait at all? He could just as easily have remained indifferent, have answered with a simple, Id have to give it thought. He wont win over Romney supporters and he significantly owes his own surge to the appetite for an anti-Romney. To praise Romney as competent and serious might be true as far as it goes but it also reminds voters that, in some ways, Romney and Gingrich are very much alike. Theyre both ambitious, intelligent and susceptible to switching positions.

Newt has officially stepped in political doo doo. It's hard not to see that both democrats and RINO pubbies want Mittens on the ballot, one way or the other.
This very well might be superb strategy by Newt Gingrich. It essentially demotes Romney to the second tier. In my opinion, it reveals the ability of Gingrich to play Romney for a fool, which he certainly is. It's like giving a lollipop to a child to make him shut up.
That guy just dropped out.
Lol @ Skifooza :D
That made me smile!
This flavor of the day stuff is frustrating.
I’m sticking.
No.
The guy with no record just dropped out.
What’s the fuss about, of course he has to say that. Romney has about 30% of the Republicans supporting him and he has to at least say he will *consider* him or he’ll alienate those voters. “Consider” does not mean anything.
Am I ever “surprised.”
President Nanny-State-Newt, and Willy-Rom-Rom-RINO.
“Wow,” the perfect ticket to abolish absolutely NOTHING in Obamanation!
BTW, maybe now Sub-Prime Barney will stay on to help these newly-minted “conservatives?”
Romney has the DC insiders in his pocket and they appear to be about 25% of the polls.
So our solution is to run another DC insider against him, and play kissy face?
Playing Kissy face with Newt did not work out for Cain, and it wont work out for conservatives if we have Newt and Romney playing kissy face.
Sorry, I didn’t realize you were speaking literally.
My mistake.
There is no aisle or political abyss Newt isn’t willing to jump across without anybody even asking him to.
I think that John Bolton fan-toss was BS, too.
Actually Newt reminds me a little of Trump who he will be on TV with December 27. That should be a love-in.
Thanks montag813.
I don’t want flamboyant politicians.
We have one of those in the oval office now.
I am partial to Bolton though, he doesn’t sugar coat it.
I’m a siiiick FReeper if skifooza made me laugh :P
He did apologize for that too.
I heard Mark Levin talking tonight on his radio show about how Romney is attacking Newt through all his operatives. He pointed out how he smiles outwardly and is ruthless behind the scenes and it is a major character flaw. He also said he smells Rove in this and told Rove to call him and dispute the accusation. LOL!
Can’t recall the politician in the past that said this, but he was right:
“The Vice Presidency isn’t worth a bucket of warm spit.”
(as the Biden Vice Presidency is proof of....)
The more I think about this the more I think that was a condescending dig to Romney but only he got it! LOLOL!!!
“Consider” is political speak for “no comment”.
Seriously, what do they do?
Head the Senate and go to funerals and ceremony’s.
