Newt Gingrich tells CNN's Wolf Blitzer he would consider Mitt Romney to be a potential running mate (VIDEO). The interview is very much in keeping with Gingrich’s “keep it classy” campaign theme so far — and he treaded lightly, sounding neither overly enthusiastic about a VP Romney nor overly displeased with the idea.
But why did he take the bait at all? He could just as easily have remained indifferent, have answered with a simple, “I’d have to give it thought.” He won’t win over Romney supporters — and he significantly owes his own surge to the appetite for an anti-Romney. To praise Romney as “competent” and “serious” might be true as far as it goes — but it also reminds voters that, in some ways, Romney and Gingrich are very much alike. They’re both ambitious, intelligent and susceptible to switching positions.

It maybe political life insurance to ward off a dagger in the back though. Deal killer for me though. ANY ticket with Romney on it is a deal killer.
He has a habit of dumping wives and marrying mistresses.

Yup. Newt is still maintaining Reagan’s 11th commandment discipline regarding his Republican colleagues. That will change when the gloves come off in the clenches and they get down and dirty. He’s a scrappy fighter when the going gets rough.
Gingrich/Romney—That will certainly fire up the conservatives in this country—as did Dewey/Warren, Nixon/Lodge and Ford/Dole.
When you consider his past support of Skifooza in NY 23, Castle in MD, Gramm-Leach-Bliley and his coziness with Nazi Pelosi re AGW.....not really unbelievable at all. Newt marches to the beat of a drum that only he can hear....always has...always will.
I think Gingrich actually said “short bus” list.
