...3 companies of infantry were polled by questionnaire about the drill and its purpose. One of the questions was, will you as a member of the Nat. Guard use lethal force against the American public if ordered to do so? One of the men stepped forward and refused to take the poll and explained that it was a moral judgement on his part and that he could not do so. He then placed his weapon on the ground and fell in behind the formation. Devon said it was like a waterfall, Every member layed their weapons on the deck and fell in beside the one lone specialist. ...

Kent state was the culmination of riots through out the country at Universities..Prior to Kent, these riots included setting buildings on fire, trashing the inside of building...The Berrigan Brothers (priest) went into recruiting offices and threw blood on all the records, there were political assassinations, JFK , RFK and a Governor and MLK. It was violent times and led mostly by radicals and communists/Marxist...with of course the useful idiots that followed them.....Today it is bad but a cake walk compared to what was going on then....The national guard were for the most part (called out many times) not given bullets Someone finally gave permission to stop these people and riots in any way needed....
The killings at Kent state actually put an end to years of violence...When the useful idiot students were shown that there are repercussions to their lawless takeover of many universities. Since they could get killed, it wasn't so much fun to be a revolutionary

Thank you for your service from one vet to another.
I was being sarcastic, saying that if you had been in command the incident wouldn’t have happened. There are others who have posted the link that reports that the troops were fired on, or felt that at the time.
What would you have done differently?

If you were going to wait for the confirmation then why all the yelling, ranting, and raving? Gotta keep that blood pressure down. We need all the troops for the fight.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
We need an natural born citizen for a Commander in Chief. If this poll is true, I am willing to bet it has tracks all the way back to the usurper in the Red House ( oops! White House)
And...We need a highest military who take their oath to defend the Constitution seriously, so do our brave and honorable troops.

I don’t selective read. Not sure what you mean by “defending the impossible”. I am at work, so I don’t have the time I’d like to devote to threads. But you are still vilifying part of the military. You don’t know what they have to do, what their job is like, yet there you go.
I agree with you on the president issue, but that isn’t germaine to this discussion.

I can not say what I would have done. However, the N.G. is but an extension of the civilian law enforcement. The rioters needed to be isolated with the leaders( head rabble rouses) arrested. Without proper support the troops become the ones isolated and reacted like a cornered animal. That is what happened.

"Sharper cultural divide, higher emotions, back then."Actually it was the initial divide. Probably the first time that a generation turned around to their elders and said "piss-off".

Okay, so what happened at Kent State? A bunch of SDS scum were throwing rocks at armed men. That never ends well.

One of the questions was, will you as a member of the Nat. Guard use lethal force against the American public if ordered to do so?With the current climate of most NG troops, I can add this bit. At a TEA party event, probably only a few would. At an OWS camp, most would ask for additional 30 found magazines.

One of the questions was, will you as a member of the Nat. Guard use lethal force against the American public if ordered to do so?As a current senior enlisted member of the TXARNG, I'll add this tidbit. At a TEA party event with the US flags on display, most would not carry out the order. At any OWS camp, most would ask for additional 30 round magazines.

Wow!; Talk about our wee-hours radio pal George Noory; He’s got a You Tube (audio only) about Police and Military having to sign an agreement to fire on Americans as a condition of re-enlistment... among other things.
I tend to take Noory with a bit of proverbial salt, but the guy is certainly interesting!

One has to be careful how one words the question. The Guard is authorized to shoot looters, rioters, insurrectionists, ect.
But just so long as they understand that anyone who shoots at me is going to get shot back at.

Same scenario different place maybe like OWS protests? There were some violent actions against the cops. What would have happened if untrained NG troops came? (untrained as in riot control)That is one question I have for current NG doctrine. We are here for state emergencies and riot control under the state governors. When I got in during the end of Nam, riot control was mandatory quarterly training.
BTW, I love your about page.
