Wow, this is incredible. I think the Angels gave him way too much, but there's no denying that he's still a great player, and this is a huge addition for them.

Its nice to have an owner who will pay WHATEVER to win.

AP is still a feared hitter, and will have several more strong years, but he is no longer the hands down, best in the game.

The Angels GROSSLY overpaid for his services, but I guess like other cash rich teams, they can afford to be hideously inefficient with their payrolls. That is great for the fans in those cities, but a huge black mark on the overall fairness of constructing MLB rosters.

Anyway, good for my Cardinals. With the huge savings going forward, on a contract for a player whose performance is already in decline, they have a lot more latitude to make the World Champions even better.

Good! I’m a Nats fan nad have gotten sick watching the Marlins snatching everyone up...they got Reyes and Buerle...I’d be sick if they got Pujols too. They’ll probably get Fielder if he’s really available though.

Thus begins the decline of Albert Pujols. He was a great player.

Always about the money. Hope he enjoys the bigger tax bill in CA.

But if he is thinking that after he retires that he will be welcomed back and treated the way Cardinal Nation treats players like Stan, Gibby and Lou he is dead wrong.

Frankly I really didn’t care if he stayed or not...just as long as the Cubs didn’t get him.

That’s a head-spinning contract! On the other hand, it is in California, so how much of that loot will go into State coffers?

Good riddance Albert! We offered him a nine year at $220M with an option for year ten. This guy is making the biggest mistake of his career. He was worshipped here in STL. He will banged up in five years and probably took the deal so he could finish his career as a DL.

Thanks Albert, you just allowed us a WHOLE bunch of room to get a shortstop, relievers and naturally your replacement.

I was duck hunting with a guy last weekend that installed his swimming pool. Said that him and his wife treated the crew like crap, wasn’t friendly at all and said his kid’s were not allowed to play with the neighborhood kids.

I am shaking my head at this deal... AP is a beast right now, but unless this deal has a ton of riders/buy outs/etc this is among the worst deals in MLB history. If anyone thinks Pujols is really only 31 they are delusional - the man is probably 33-34 and maybe even older than that.

The Angels, if they are lucky, will get:
2 years of production worth what they are paying him
3 years of declining production but still acceptable
5 years of paying for injuries and mediocre player production that drains the team of any money to keep them competitive as AP happily cashes the Angels paychecks while fans bitch and moan about a last place team.

I grew up down the street from Angels Stadium. Lived and died...many times with that team!!

Then I moved to Oklahoma...in '97...and they have a dream season in 2002..and win it all!!!!

That all said....I don't think they paid too much. 3 yrs from now...it may look cheap!! And Pujols would just be 35 yrs old. We shall see!!

The thing that's bothering me...is what happens to Trumbo, Morales?? I don't think Morales isn't ready to play first base. And I think this pick-up confirms that. But can he DH? We shall see. Now Trumbo...is a great kid. And did a great job last year!! What now? Can he play 3rd??? Not sure....but I think the Angels are going to find out!

The Angels weren't that far away from the Rangers this last year....and the Angels played horrible at times...and guy's had some bad years too.

All that said....I'm excited for them!!

I think the Angels gave him way too much..

Ryan Howard is still making more per year than Pujols and Howard can't even walk, let alone hit.
This year my Phils won't make it to ANY playoff.

I'm not a Cardinals fan, but seeing him leave St. Louis makes me sad.

But he can't be faulted for it. The Cardinals did their best, but the Angels made him feel wanted -- and $50 million wealthier. He pretty much had to take it.
