DALLAS -- Albert Pujols has agreed to a 10-year, $250 million deal with the Los Angeles Angels, sources told ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney on Thursday.
The deal includes a full no-trade clause, which Pujols had been seeking and may have been a sticking point in his negotiations with the Miami Marlins.

Hard to know if the Angels overpaid....But apparently that's the going rate. Free market is working...as far as I'm concerned.
Full disclosure....I'm a life long Angels fan. And I NEVER figured Moreno would pony up for Pujols. NEVER.
Got to say though...EyeGuy...your fairness statement smacks me over the head! Sounds real PC to me..........
Watched the W.S. and that was one of the best W.S. ever!! Hope you were there!!
Yes, the Angels gave up too many leads. But that wasn't those 3's fault. They need back-end support. Walden isn't quite ready.
Now I guess they have signed Wilson. Not sure I like that signing...but it does bring a left hander into the fold. Buerle would have a been a better fit...as far as I'm concerned.
We shall see!!

PC?
So if you and I sit down to a game of Monopoly, you’ll have no problem if I get to start with $10,000.00 and you only get $2,500.00?
No, I didn’t attend this year’s Fall Classic, but did get to bask in the proximal aura of David Freese about a week ago. LOL.
Your TEAM just won the WORLD SERIES!!
And you are moaning on more than one post about inefficient FAIRNESS!!???
Come on man....you seem have had your feelings really hurt here. Hey, I'd be pissed too.
BUT YOU JUST WON THE WORLD SERIES!!!!!
My Gawd man....how many have the Card's won??? Your FAIRNESS mantra....is suggesting to me...that your team as won too many!! LOL!!!
Well then let me expand on what should be an obvious point.
Teams like the Yankees that spend upwards of 5 times as much as teams like the Pittsburgh Pirates enjoy a HUGE advantage in QUALIFYING for the playoffs. The Pirates with their bargain basement roster, don’t stand a chance of MAKING the playoffs.
Once IN the postseason, anyone can get hot and win it. That is the mulch that is covering the badly scarred trunk of the tree.
The Cardinals, due to the support they receive, are able to spend a healthy amount on payroll, but still have to be careful and efficient in the way they deploy their resources or they will pay the price on the field.
The Yankees, Red Sox and apparetnly the Angels can afford to make BIG mistakes (and they have), and not suffer the consequences.
That is what is unfair, compared to say the NFL.
Out in the real world, away from the artifical construct of a game which requires EVEN application of the rules, I am as big a free marketeer as anyone.
My thoughts exactly. How much more in taxes does he have to pay in California compared to Missouri?
Plus, the cost of living is considerably higher in Lala land as well. How much more will it cost him in that category?
The taxes and living costs will eat up most of the difference in the offers he got from the Cards to the Halo`s.
I am a life long Cardinals fan and my first reaction when I heard the news was , “ so what “ !! The Cards are still stacked and now they have about 200 million more to spread around if they wish.
Long term, this may actually work out better for the Cards.
I wish Pujols all the luck in the world with his new club. Loved watching him and still will, but Cardinal nation will endure. Go Cards !!!
Not everyone can live in SoCal...where the weather is nice most of the time.
You're pissed...at losing AP. I get it!
I was TOTALLY PISSED when that witch Georgia stole the Anaheim RAMS...and moved to ST. LOUIS!! But hey, I got over it.
You will get over it too..........
We will agree to disagree.....I guess.
“You’re pissed...at losing AP. I get it!”

I don’t know why you keep saying that. It is beyond just an oversimplification of what I’m saying, it is totally inaccurate.
As I’ve made clear in this thread I’m GLAD the Cardinals didn’t match the Angels’ offer, in fact I thought they were already offering him too much. I wish Albert would have retired as a Cardinal, but I wished MORE that the team wouldn’t overpay for his services, and cripple our ability to compete in the future. Now just give us back our farmhand Danny Haren and we’ll be happy. LOL.
So back to the point we’ve been discussing, what is UNFAIR is that the Cardinals cannot afford to be wasteful or take the chances with payroll that teams with deeper pockets can. That asymmetry is even more ridiculous with teams that don’t enjoy the consistent fan and financial support that the St. Louis Cardinals do.
Regarding LA and the NFL, it is hard to believe that after 16 long years you guys might finally be getting a team again. It is difficult to fathom that one of the most attractive markets IN THE WORLD, has gone without NFL football for so long. One theory, popular here in St. Louis, is that the threat of moving to the enormous and wealthy LA market was and is used as a hammer by the owners to coerce local cities to give them what they wanted.
I don’t know about that; it seems like cutting off your nose to spite your face.
” It is difficult to fathom that one of the most attractive markets IN THE WORLD, has gone without NFL football for so long.”
In those 16 years thousands of American NFL fans have been pushed out of SoCal by soccer fans from below the border.
I dunno...just seems like you were/are.

Highest bidder generally wins services.....And it's up to the parties involved to determine whether they paid too much...or weren't paid enough. ( Yes, I'm aware of..."When you are making 26 mil a year...what's another 2 mil?? Maybe it's pride, maybe it's something else...) Haren ain't coming back!! HA!! The guy is a horse. Love watching him!!

I disagree with the word UNFAIR...especially in today's climate. So be it.

Well it ain't you guy's anymore....I live in OK. Yeah, Al Davis tried that....Didn't work. He asked for way too much....Surprising really...as SoCal politicians are idiots. Maybe they wanted bribes...and he wouldn't go for that? Would not surprise me....Davis was a character.
They already did before you posted this. It kinda got overshadowed by Albert.
Well Pineda is good too right?
I saw that after I posted.
LAA’s going for it, bigtime!!!
GO ANGELS!
Ryan Howard is still making more per year than Pujols and Howard can't even walk, let alone hit.
This year my Phils won't make it to ANY playoff.
But he can't be faulted for it. The Cardinals did their best, but the Angels made him feel wanted -- and $50 million wealthier. He pretty much had to take it.
The Angels already have Bobby Abreu DHing. Albert is the firstbaseman. But you do wonder what they’re going to do with Mark Trumbo and Kendrys Morales. I hear Morales may be non-tendered.
The Angels just got a 20-year TV deal that pays $150 million per year. I think they can afford to pay Pujols and C.J. Wilson.

Well that is hardly the point.
I never doubted whether they could “afford” to be utterly stupid with their money.
Therin lies the problem. 3/4 of the teams do not have that luxury, and are at a gross disadvantage to qualify for the Playoffs. What obfuscates that plain and embarrassing fact is that once IN the postseason, anyone can win it all.
Gross payroll asymmetries make MLB a laughably riggged game.
