This morning, an article in The Washington Times noted that Newt Gingrichs campaign was likely to miss the Ohio filing deadline to be on the GOP primary ballot Wednesday, December 7, 4pm EST. But thats not the full story: that is an old deadline because the Ohio legislature recently moved its GOP presidential primary from March to June, and with it, the filing deadline. Gingrich is not missing the actual deadline.
In Ohio, the deadline for filing to be on the primary ballot is 90 days before the primary, which means that the new deadline for now-scheduled June primary is March 14, 2012.
However, the story gets a little bit complicated because the law pushing back Ohios primary has not yet taken effect. That means that while the deadline the Times reported on this morning is currently the formal deadline, once the new bill goes into effect in by January 20, 2012, the deadline will be moved and the old filing requirements will no longer matter.
What makes the story even more complicated, according to Matt McClellan, spokesman for the Ohio Secretary of State, is that the candidates were advised by the Secretarys office to adhere to the old December deadline just in case the legislature again changed the date of the primary (which it has done a few times in the last few months). If the legislature were to move the Presidential primary back to March when local primaries are still being held then if they didnt file by today they wouldnt have a second opportunity - so its more of an advice that our office has given, McClellan told TPM. However, he noted that because of the new primary date, they could wait.
The Times article noted that missing the deadline would be a sign that despite Newts rise in the polls, his campaign organization had some catching up to do. Moreover, it cited his critics who felt that this was typical of Newts erratic leadership style which was much better on big-picture strategy but lacking in discipline and attention to detail.
Thats not entirely untrue. For example, Gingrich didnt have an office in Iowa until last week. And even though they arent missing what will be the real deadline in Ohio, they did miss a primary deadline in Missouri and, according to the Times, submitted forms in New Hampshire that were messy and handwritten.
Gingrich Spokesman R.C. Hammond told the Times, We are going to give it our damnedest. We are going to do everything in our capacity to meet this deadline. He also affirmed that the campaign was on schedule with several other state filing deadlines this month. Hammond insisted it was intentional because the Missouri caucuses a month later are where delegates are actually chosen.
Its unclear from these comments whether the Gingrich campaign knew when the real deadline was, or whether they were scrambling to meet the advised deadline. Hammond was not able to comment immediately.
Newt Ping
I’ll bet a dollar that Neut will say “I knew it all along.”
So the WashingtonTimes has committed a big fat journalism fail.
yes, I’m from Ohio and they’ve changed the primary to June....for some strange reason. It will be over in June.
Can I point out that the story pretends that Gingrich “lucked out”. But in fact they moved their primary some time ago, and it is quite possible that Gingrich’s team KNEW what the real deadline was.
So in fact, it was the news organization that screwed up, and instead of just correcting their mistake, they are continuing with this story that somehow Newt was going to miss the deadline but he got lucky and it moved.
Newt said today that he would name John Bolton as Sec of State!
Our primary in Ohio os a mess right now.The deems have filed suit against the redistricting and now it all has to go to court. We may actually get to have a primary sometime in 2013....*eyeroll*

It’s a mute point because by that time, Michele Bachmann or Rick Santorum will have the nomination in hand.
That is if people come to their senses and actually vote on principle and not this American Idol BS going on.
Mark Levin doesn’t buy the Newt bullcrap. And neither do I. He came out for Bachmann and Santorum, despite the fact that Newt has risen in the polls. Why do you think that is?

Newt’s not only going to be on the ballot, Newt’s going to win Ohio as well. It’s time people get on board and let this dog loose on Obama. You want to defeat Obama, but also educate people and make them understand why. Newt is the best guy to clearly articulate that message.
He did? Do you have a source? If he did say that, he has my vote for sure.
Perhaps this video will change your mind about why Newt would be the most effective President at this time after years of obamanation:

** I believe after 3 1/2 years of obama pontifications and his control of the bully pulpit, and after decades of neglectfulness of our public education system, we need a real Constitutional scholar and a REAL American historian to take over that pulpit. We need a new master instructor at this time more than we even need a manager, IMO, to remind us all what America is and what it stands for, after these years of assault by the socialist agitator.
The popular kids will never ask you to their parties now. LOL
“Its a mute point because by that time, Michele Bachmann or Rick Santorum will have the nomination in hand.”
That would be ‘moot’ and I’ll have some of whatever it is you’re drinking.
You report: “Newt said today that he would name John Bolton as Sec of State!”
Hallelujah!
That’s been my hope. Another non-card carrying member of the Establishment Elitist REpublican Cabal.
And he has mentioned Col. West as his VP pick - another ‘outsider’ - and Col. West is open to it.
Hallelujah
then, my prayer is: Energy Sec - Palin.
the “Drill Here, Drill Now & the “Drill, Baby, Drill” Team would have us energy dependent so fast the ‘enemies domestic’ wouldn’t know what hit ‘em.
Hallelujah
Are you beginning to hear a chorus?
(Maybe Trump could do a stint on the economics team.)
The fight is going to be furious, folks. We are not just be fighting the demRat/Socialists but the Establishment Republican Cabal who is seeing their empire startling to crumble.
Get your boxing glove on. If not already active with your local Republican groups - get into them TODAY. Work with them now, get elected to your state Convention next spring (really not hard to do) where YOU get to vote on the slate and the candidates.
We can do this.
Support Newt =’s Support US
Picture this in your mind:
Newt
West
Bolton
Palin
and similar. HOUSE CLEANING TIME
'gonna make that a wrap around the car bumper sticker.
Exactly.
The pres. should be the CEO who selects the right management team.
If he starts out with Col. WEst and John Bolton - and I believe he will bring Palin on board for the 'Drill Here Drill Now' team - (He's already mentioned Col. West for his VP and West is open to it) - then we are getting a good indication of the kind of people he will bring on board.
In addition, he has stated he will not keep ONE holdover from the current regime. NOT ONE.
That was Bush's biggest mistake. He kept a lot of Clinton holdovers - and they sabotaged him big time.
Now picture this on the campaign trail: Gingrich/West/Bolton/Palin etc.
The country would go wild with enthusiasm while the DemRat/Socialists AND the Establishment Elite Republicans would go into complete meltdown.
I heard him recently on radio saying that “missing” the Missouri deadline was a strategic decision because that primary doesn’t carry with it any convention delegates. And isn’t that what the primaries are all about?
