The “unlike some people” is merely implied, but this one’s so heavy-handed that he might as well have tacked on a few shots of Newt with his ex-wives framed by a torn “heart” graphic.
I’m tempted to say this will do Romney as much harm as good simply because it stinks of desperation driven by Gingrich’s surge, but in truth it probably will help him a bit. For every Iowa political junkie who long ago priced Newt’s personal issues into his stock, there are probably two or three socially conservative caucusgoers who haven’t paid much attention yet and are just now taking a close look at Gingrich. And yes, character does matter:

You tried to buy the nomination last time, and it failed, and you hoped you could just quielty be coronated this time and its failed.

Romney, Newt ain’t exactly a favorite of the hard right either, but you know the one thing he’s been doing and doing consistently??? He’s framed nearly everything he’s done as not an attack on other R’s.. but by contrasting what he would do vs what Obama has done!
You can’t do that, why? You enacted RomneyCare, which was effectively ObamaCare at a state level, so you can’t seperate yourself from Obama on policy, since your policy record wasn’t one of major differences in many areas.
I’ll freely admit, I don’t like you Romney, never have. It’s got nothing to do with your religion, or your success or failure in business.. it has EVERYTHING to do with 2 things, 1) You signed into law legislation that effectively punished people for simply BREATHING!!! You either pay the state, buy insurance, or be punished JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE ALIVE.. that is fundamentally UNACCEPTABLE! 2) You attempted to portray yourself as Reaganesque last election cycle, and it was truly sad. I don’t like when any politician tries to paint themselves as another, period.
However, if you truly have launched an ad simply attacking a guy on the grounds he’s been divorced?? First of all attacking is silly, give voters a REASON you are a better choice, not attack another R.. second, you are tone deaf politically.. yes even in Iowa folks get divorced Romney, it stinks, don’t condone it, but if we are disqualify folks from jobs because they have been divorced, you are going to have an unemployment rate far higher than the real numbers of 17-20%.

Claiming you never divorced, is admirable.. however its not exactly a winning claim either. John Edwards could make that claim during all his electorial bids... how’d that end up? Bill Clinton’s never been divorced either, but he’s run around for decades.
I am personally glad that any couple can stay happily married for the long haul, but does that mean others whos marriages failed are somehow less capable to do a job? Somehow I doubt the logic of that claim.

I hadn’t thought about that. You’re right. Doesn’t one out of every two marriages end in divorce? There are also many reasons why divorce happens. I can see people saying, “Well, bloody good for you, Romney - I don’t need you in the White House to remind me of my divorce - good bye, Romeny.”
This is his shot at his biggest opponent? What’s he going to say about Obama? He’s too tall.

He never says anything like “unlike others”. Its a bit of a stretch to slam him on this. The ad and response was from a debate trying to counter his flip-flopping. You can critisize him for flip-flopping, but this is hardly a slap at Gingrich.
It’s good for America to see what lowlife Romney is willing to do under pressure.

I thought that the last time he ran it cost him personally over $43,000,000 and he promised his wife that he wouldn’t do that again.
