Just four weeks out from the Iowa caucuses, and swinging like a trapeze artist over the heads of his fellow Republican contenders, Gingrich has done what everyone knew he would said something mind-blowingly wrong. Not just wrong as in incorrect, but off-the-charts insensitive, insulting and, most important, Out. Of. Touch.
~~snip~~
Gingrichs big idea was that kids from poor neighborhoods should work janitorial jobs at school in order to learn a work ethic. His argument was that poor kids who live in housing projects dont see people working and therefore literally have no habit of showing up on Monday. Instead, they gravitate toward, you know, pimping and prostitution.
So much for the big tent. So much for diversity. Sayonara African-American vote. Hasta la vista, Paco y Maria. ...
~~snip~~
The former speakers fumble is precisely what some Republicans have feared and others have breathlessly anticipated. The Washington Wager was whether Gingrich could make it four weeks without self-immolating before Iowa. Or would he find himself so irresistible that he just had to express himself?
Voila.

Gingrichs poor excuse for a big idea
(Note how copy editor's change story titles to suit their fancy.)
EPIC FAIL.
So Kathleen Parker outs herself as a Mitten? Why am I not surprised...
She’s baaaaaack! Shilling for Romney, I guess.
We don’t have the African American vote anyway....so what. He didn’t say anything that we haven’t been told for years. The only difference is, we were told these sob stories to justify horrible social programs that made the problem worse. Why do we need affirmative action and to lower standards for minorities? Why do we have to support women with 10 kids from 10 different losers?
You can tell this person is a part if the arm of the Democrat party because they only mentioned the janitor job and excluded the rest of the statement made.
Trying to create sabotage where there wasn’t any.
What again is wrong with teaching a respect for all jobs?
If KP doesn’t like him, I’m even more sure my support of him is justified...
Kathleen Parker is voting for Obama anyway. Why should we GAF what she says?
Newt shoots foot. Monkey faced commentary.
So Newt is not allowed to ruminate on the welfare society and its innate problems?
The title should be ‘Newt’s Big Idea for the Poors’ excuse’.
I thought the conservative principles were; ‘A hand up not a hand out’ and ‘give a man a fish and he eats for a day - teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime’.
Complaints are easy - solutions begin with an idea.
“Sayonara African-American vote.”
As if.
I know I’m late on this but Kathleen Parker nuff said.
What’s Newt’s exact quote? Did he really make the “pimping” remark, or did Parker put those words in his mouth. If those are Parker’s words, she’s the racist. And I don’t even like Newt for other reasons.
Newt should have said that Kathleen Parker should resign her “writing” career, and SHE should be working as a janitoress (is that a word?), cleaning the worst restrooms in the country. But even that may be too good for her.
I’m still trying to figure out what Newt said that’s wrong or bad. The kids don’t have stable homes or father figures who work for a living, get them out there and teach them some responsibility. Otherwise they’ll never learn about coming to work on time or following through on a job.

While I agree with Kathleen Parker (not that is a HARD phrase to type!) that Newt is likely to say something breathtakingly stupid, suggesting that poor kids should work and should be exposed to work does not strike me as stupid. It’s surprisingly sensible as a political statement. I’m not sure how Newt managed to think of it, nor am I sure why anyone would be offended except if they were looking for an excuse.
I expect that a lot of people will react to Newt’s comment with, “Oh! Lookie there! Newt said something offensive - THAT’S why I have to vote for the leftist Romney, for the failed leftist Obama, or for the leftist Hillary candidacy to rescue us from the less capable and consistent lefties.” It’s just an act though. As with most far left reasoning, the conclusion is predetermined, and then they look for an excuse to justify their answer. It’s a shame too. Newt is just about certain to say something monumentally stupid (although it’s more likely to offend FR than to be something that would offend the left if spoken by one of their own, like Obama or Romney), and Parker jumped the gun with her commentary.
Kathleen Parker? Puh-leeze. She doesn’t know a potentially successful Republican candidate from a hole in the head.
Kathleen Parker’s latest bimbo eruption. She couldn’t even keep a job on CNN.
