Justice Department Warns Alabama Law Enforcers On Immigration
By Pete Williams and Kari Huus
The Justice Department has sent a letter to dozens of local law enforcement agencies in Alabama that receive federal money, warning them that they risk losing that funding if they're not careful in how they enforce the state's tough new immigration law.
The Obama administration has already sued the state, claiming that the law is unconstitutional. Now it's keeping the pressure on by addressing how the law is carried out.
The law, HB56 passed by the Alabama Legislature in June, attempts to combat illegal immigration by establishing harsh penalties for employers who hire undocumented workers, requiring public schools to report children and parents who are not legal residents, and forbidding illegal migrants from having any transactions with the government. The law creates new immigration crimes, and puts local police in the position of enforcing immigration.
Federal justice officials were in Birmingham last week to investigate the civil rights impacts of HB56, which is designed to make it extremely uncomfortable, if not impossible, for illegal immigrants to live in the state. Among the officials was Thomas Perez, assistant attorney general of Justice Departments civil rights division.

If Holder doesn’t resign, he needs to be thrown out on his corrupt ass.
Correct me if I’m wrong on this, please: does the State of Alabama have a legal case against the Federal Government IF Federal agents extort state employees into breaking Federal laws (in this case, Federal immigration laws)?
Remember - the State of Alabama is upholding Federal Immigration Laws with its own state laws, I believe.
Don’t EVEN get me started. *blood at boiling level*
Not a surprise.
Evil Eric fished this clown out of the septic tank that is Casa de Maryland....
Yes, they should have not only the right but the obligation to pursue this. This is another of those problems for individuals and States, is the cost worth the effort - not is this right or wrong.
The Federal Government is obviously wrong here - but is the cost of litigation affordable? It no longer has to do with right or wrong but affordability. This has been the problem with our justice system for years!
Time for loser pays even between States and the Federal Government. Of course that does not resolve the problem here since it really means that the tax payers pay regardless! So between Governments - no penalty involved!
What a grand result - except for us taxpayers.
It’s really simple.
Either u are here legally or illegally.
Enforce the law.
So basically the federal government is telling state law enforcement to stand down with regards to a literal invasion by perhaps twenty million unnaturalized people mainly from one foreign nation, or they won’t get a scoobie snack.
Dear Justice Dept.
Your boss and his boss risk losing that their damn jobs and any say-so over funding, if they’re not careful in how they enforce Federal immigration law.
We, the citizesn of this nation, are already paying enough due to hospitals going bankrupt and school district budgets stretched. Send the illegal aliens home and relieve the taxpayers of some of the burden. It will be well worth the court expenses.
Thanks Steelfish.
The federal government will do anything but enforce the immigration laws including spending millions intimidating states who attempt to.
Corrupt bastards.
Funny thing, I bet they won't need that federal money if they enforce the immigration law.

When a “federal official” attempts to obstruct justice, charge them with same and prosecute to the max.

Exactly. I say let ‘em yank their funding. I’d be happy to write a check to Alabama LEO’s as I’m sure others would. But let’s do it quick before Governor Moonbeam takes more money away from us in Cali and gives it to our entrenched illegals.
Best Regards
Exactly. ICE started deputizing some police officers as 287g enforcement capable, and when they went to work, the illegals screamed about racial profiling, because the police are very effective at finding the illegals.
So ICE backed away from doing this.
It should be absolutely a nationwide program.
