The slant six, along with the 318, were some of the best engines Detroit ever produced as far as reliability goes IMHO. (old mopar owner/lover)
I had a `72 Dodge truck with a 318 and a 4 speed stick with granny gear. I pulled shrubs and small trees out of the ground with it and a chain. Re-built the carb, no extra pieces left over on the kitchen table, wife didn’t leave me. Worked out great!
Yeah, I had 'em both too. And their 440 wasn't bad either. I had that in a beautiful 1966 Charger.
4 speed, completely stock motor. The car was red, with a white leather interior. Its instrument panel had a beautiful, greenish luminescent glow.
I loved that car!!
I have a 1965 Dodge Dart, 2-door post with a slant 6. Also have another one, same color, 4 door with a BITCHIN 318 in it. We bought the 4 door for the body parts (front end, quarter panels, better chrome) and had no idea at the time how nice the engine in it was. Now the quandary is do we put the 318 in the two door, or do we stay with the slant 6 for the mileage? Either way, I LOVE MY DART. The license plate says ‘NO HEMI’ and I get a LOT of smiles, and a lot of comments on my car, even tho it’s not quite ‘fixed up’ yet. We’ve never seen another 2 door post on the road.

I never could stand Mopar or Chrysler products.
Yet I have to agree with you here.
