Newt Gingrichs record disturbing to home state gun owners
Georgia gun owners long aware of Newts anti-gun record
Kennesaw, GA The 6,000 members and supporters of the premier grassroots gun rights group in Georgia, Georgia Gun Owners, began buzzing the phone lines of the Newt 2012 Iowa campaign headquarters (515-468-9225) demanding Mr. Gingrich apologize to gun owners for his more than two-decade history of supporting gun control.
Georgia Gun Owners knows Newts history of gun control. He represented parts of our state for 20 years. Hes been playing both sides of the gun issue as long as we can remember.
Take a look at the Marietta (GA) Daily Journal from September 16, 1996. The headline is Gingrich supports gun ban. I remember Newts betrayal of gun owners back in the 90s like it was yesterday, said D.R. Leonard, Political Director of Georgia Gun Owners.
While Newt used the institutional gun lobby as a mouthpiece to convince millions of gun owners nationwide that as long as he is Speaker, no gun-control legislation is going to move in committee or on the House floor, he was working behind the scenes to pass gun control. In 1996, Newt Gingrich turned his back on gun owners and voted for the anti-gun Brady Campaigns Lautenberg Gun Ban, which strips the Second Amendment rights of citizens involved in misdemeanor domestic violence charges or temporary protection orders in some cases for actions as minor as spanking a child.
Gingrich also stood shoulder to shoulder with Nancy Pelosi to pass the Criminal Safezones Act which prevents armed citizens from defending themselves in certain arbitrary locations. Virtually all Americans know that Criminal Safezones dont protect law-abiding citizens, but actually protect the criminals who ignore them. But the biggest knife that Newt plunged into the back of all Americans and gun owners who wish to defend themselves and their families, was his coming out in support of a national thumbprint database for gun owners, said Mr. Leonard.
I think we prefer to go to instant check on an immediate basis and try to accelerate implementing instant checks so that you could literally check by thumbprint Instant check is a much better system than the Brady process. Newt Gingrich, June 27, 1997 Newt Gingrich is no friend of gun owners. I wish Georgia Gun Owners had a mountaintop to scream this information from. We just want like-minded voters in early primary states like Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina to be aware of this.
Newt is trying really hard to play both sides of the Second Amendment. Hes a professional politician. But as the old saying goes, the proof is in the pudding. Its in his record. His own words and votes. Hes a danger to our Second Amendment rights and privacy. The members of Georgia Gun Owners know this. We want ALL Americans to know this as well, said Mr. Leonard, Political Director of Georgia Gun Owners.

Any of them are way better than our master of disaster Barack Hussein Obama.
So you prefer soft tyranny to Barrys hard line. You can stomach republican statism better than democrat statism. It looks like that same thing from where I live.
I wonder how the people who worked hard to get him reelected felt after he quit in a huff shortly after because he couldn't get his way?
This is truly an historical primary season.
The only candidates given a chance are those who will fit right in to the Big Government insanity that dominates Washington, DC. - and we haven’t even seen the first vote cast!
Any candidate who actually stands for the people and the constitution was torn down and/or destroyed right at the get go.
I dunno, has Newt changed his position???
But, I dare say that if he has, I bet you a dollar to a donut hole that he’d be accused of being a flip flopper!!! ;-)
Very frustrating. I am just focused now on the congress and my state critters.
Hopefully we will replace an incumbent rino for my district in both the US House and Texas House.
I am voting anti-incumbent across the board and that includes the Presidency.
Political power appears to corrupt even good people and start making them wacko...
What I want and prefer is a lot different than what I or anyone else is going to get.
So be snide and make stupid remarks.
The imperative is to get rid of Obama, and get the best we can.
Im not being snide at all and the remarks aren’t stupid. What you want is little different than what you already have. In your book replacing Barry w/ a soft tyrant is better. How is it better? The end is exactly the same.
Yes: Of course, you know my mind better than I do.
Its easy, just explain how replacing Barry w/ Newt isn’t essentially a sum zero event. They’ll both will take us to the same place. How is your soft tyrant better than the hard liner we have in office now? Is it more palatable to be roasted slowly or quickly? In the end you’re still roasted.
Your question assumes it will be Obama and Newt.
I believe it will be too.
If you believe the way you do, why bother to vote at all. Just give it to Obama and save yourself a trip to the polls.
Enjoy the next 4 years under Obama. After all, as you say they are the same.
Being a Georgian I promise you none of us have forgotten or will forgive what Newt has done and if he is banking on this state he is going to be bouncing checks.
LIving here in Alaska, I've watched Palin since early 90s. My buddy from covington would never vote for Palin which is just nuts; but the media has even destroyed her in conservative eyes. You watch how they go after Gingrich too.
