Consider another media critic convinced.
Gabriel Sherman, a contributing editor at New York magazine who has spent many a word on Fox News, wrote a post for the magazine's Daily Intel blog Monday suggesting Fox has adopted a "new strategy" for 2012.
"Fox is trying to credibly capture the center without alienating its loyal core of rabid viewers. To this end, the network is flexing its news-gathering muscles in high-profile ways that will capture media attention," Sherman wrote.
Sherman is not the first media critic to make this claim. Howard Kurtz did so back in September after talking with network chairman Roger Ailes, and observing a Fox News debate in Orlando.
Kurtz wrote that Ailes has a series of anchors and correspondents -- like Chris Wallace, Bret Baier and Megyn Kelly -- who would fit in at any news network with their credentials and willingness to ask tough questions.
Sherman too sees the news side of Fox adopting a more pugnacious approach with the GOP candidates. While the prime time hosts continue to operate in their own universe, Baier conducted a widely praised interview with Mitt Romney, Wallace has peppered Michele Bachmann and the entire field was subject to a roaming New York Times reporter at Saturday's "candidates forum."
Like Kurtz, Sherman remains skeptical, particularly since he does not see this shift as a case of old-fashioned media objectivity. It's just another way of benefiting
Fox.
"2012 is shaping up to be the year that Ailes decided Fox will benefit if the political world recognizes that his network is willing to make GOP candidates sweat in front of their base. Like any good candidate, the network plans to tack toward the center for the general election," he wrote.

saw him every now and again but since Megyn Kelly got him on her show to attack him and insult him I have not seen him since on FOX.
Seems Kelly the cross dressing homosexual lover has no tolerance for those who do not share her liberal views and you know what I have no time to watch her crap show any more.
Besides when I did watch her she always had the same guests on, the boring guests like the black woman who has a blog the homo ugly looking woman who can only sit there pulling faces and looks to be a bobble head of pep boys who too has a blog.
A blog wow they have a blog so that makes them an expert ARF.
Kelly got her show and she went on a massive power trip and I’m not sure if the clip is on the internet where she attacked Ablow but it is worthwhile looking at it.
Since then she has made no apology and I know for a fact quite a few off here and some others I know who lives near me called in and sent her mail showing our outrage.
HUH LOL, she is the left wing, she is a cross dressing pro homosexual left wing fool since she got her own show.
SHe has her liberal boring blogging pals on all the time and has gone on a massive power trip.
Hell did you ever see her attack Dr Ablow, and now he is never on FOX, how she has attacked conservatives or those who do not go with her own social liberal views?
The sooner they get rid of her and others like Geraldo ,smith, Hannity the fraud the better.
FOX takes advantage of the right and thinks we’re all stupid just because some on the right would sit there watching some dopey blond with legs waxed and shining.
Give me the news not the liberal power tripping Kelly’s and by the look of it on here so would most.
Fox only seems right wing by comparison and the vicious attacks on Fox attempts to convince people that Fox is right wing.
If Fox is thinking about going "centrist", this means going LEFT.
Dear Fox, free advice, don't do it. Don't break you successful model.
Actually, there is room for the underserved right wing.
same here, FOX was on in my house all the time as there was always someone watching a show, since their turn to the left and we have left wing kooks on like Colmes, Beckel, establishment types like Rove and then fraud conservatives like Hannity who has never once mentioned conservative social issues then all of us have turned FOX off minus watching Doocy and Carlson who gets all worked up over PC but becomes PC over women and what you can say about women in a joke or messing about.
FOX IF YOU WANT MORE VIEWERS BACK THEN DO A MASSIVE CLEAR OUT.
Geraldo the drama queen and makes war situations up as if is being fired at.
Smith the drama queen
Beckel, typical big mouth union hack
Rove, establishment
Hannity needs to go now, he has proven that he is not a conservative time and time again, he turned us vets down when we needed a voice over don’t ask, he never mentions conservative issues and has always the establishment types like Rove or his pals like Beckel.
O.R big mouth arrogant but at least he has balls to mention what is going on in schools and social issues
Megyn Kelly, since she attacked Ablow, bringing in her liberal, pro homo, pro cross dressing blogging pals then she is done plus her power trip has got way out of control.
Nah Murdoch will do what he did with Sky and the Sun in the UK and I was there for it.
He moved them to the left to get favors from those in power.
Murdoch is more of a liberal/libertarian.
Don’t even want a right conservative news channel I just want one which actually reports the facts.
What is going on in our schools why is obama never leading, who his connections are, what is this admin really doing, their gun running, green energy scam and pay back with our money., letting illegals stay, how much does it really cost giving illegals all of this and hell can we actually get a news channel which reports on social issues or mentions the name if something happens and they are muslim or hispanic seeing as they are quick to mention it when it is a victim especially a homosexual.
Yours is my position. I go a little further in that I do not waste my time looking at TV, and in addition to following news events on FR I read books.
Some here on FR seem to be addicted to TV and some actually believe, or did believe, that Fox largely presents their political views. Pity.
When has FOX been anything BUT centrist?
Telling the truth about this administration by reporting the facts would simply increase the perception that the network is right-leaning. So much of it (the truth) is indefensible...
Yes, they are. In the sense that they are working hand in glove with the rest of the MSM to create a new "center" that is farther to the Left than it was when FoxNews was created.
I only wonder whether this was the plan from the start, or if it is merely inevitable when dealing with the brain-dead, brain-washed human detritus that emerges from communist "Journalism" schools?
Yes, Fox News is politically correct, too, which is why Drudge left them years ago.
If they can’t stand up for innocent life, how good are they?
