Nancy Pelosi retreating from insinuations of new dirt on Newt Gingrich.

For those who missed it:

Last Friday Nancy Pelosi told Talking Points Memo that she had all sorts of investigative dirt available on current GOP frontrunner Newt Gingrich. Specifically, “I know a lot about him. I served on the investigative committee that investigated him, four of us locked in a room in an undisclosed location for a year. A thousand pages of his stuff.” So… Newt Gingrich responded today by thanking Pelosi for the early Christmas present and noting “…if she’s suggesting she’s going to use material that she developed while she was on the ethics committee, that is a fundamental violation of the rules of the House and I would hope that members would immediately file charges against her the second she does it.” Annnnnd now we’re being told (via Weasel Zippers) – it would be cruel* of me to use the word ‘frantically’ – that what the former Speaker of the House really meant by her comments to TPM was that there was plenty of public record information about Newt Gingrich available. Not that there was any private dirt. Nope. Not at all. Representative Pelosi then went on to reveal that the Red Sox had won the 2004 World Series and that Detroit mayor Kwame Kilpatrick has been indicted on felony charges.

Isn’t it refreshing to have someone who hits back at Pelosi, and within a half day?? Now THAT is HARDBALL. Good for Newt! Call her on her threat to illegally disclose investigation materials

Sweet isn't it?....Newt said he'd be responding...and there it is.....

Newt also said his campaign was not going to be the traditional we expect....I sense he's even willing to sacrifice his run to smoke these rats out throughout this primary...if it takes that..... He's dead serious about exposing Obama and all who want to destroy this country. If anyone can do this without tipping his own boat over..it's Newt. Praying he maintains a heavy armor daily as the "war" to take him out begins.

It's pretty much a given the country is in such serious condition most people aren't in the mood to hear Mafia flung tactics like Pelosi just did....I know my patience is very thin these days with the nonesense so I do not hold my tongue now.

It was said..."Pelosi is a big reason why the Dems lost control of the house. If Nancy wants to do the same for the Obama and the Senate, bring it on...."

Also....The emphasis in her comment is that clearly Pelosi, after being locked in a room for a solid year attempting to pile 84 charges of wrong doing against Speaker Gingrich... resulted in tens of millions of wasted taxpayer dollars.... and 83 failed and unsubstantiated charges.

Agree....but of course Pelosi isn’t running for President. She just doesn’t realize that outside of San Francisco, she’s mostly viewed as criminally insane...as one poster mentioned.

Pelosi does have dirt. She isn’t going to use it BECAUSE SHE WANTS HIM TO BE THE CANDIDATE. She doesn’t have to release it herself. She can use surrogates. If we want more sexual antics in the white house, just elect Gingrich. He will make Bill Clinton blush. They are two of a kind.

Newt might not have great “Q” ratings, but I’ll bet they beat the hell of of Pelosi’s outside of a 10-mile radius of San Fransisco.

To be disliked by Pelosi would be the the Republican version of being on Nixon’s “hate list”.

Just in case you haven't noticed, Nancy Pelosi is not the brightest bulb in the box.

Think what you will about Gingrich but he knows the rules of Congress. And, refreshingly, he’s not shy about zinging the BS back at the Democrats.

Newt has been honest and forthright about the fact that he has had moments in his life that he regrets, that he has had to seek reconciliation, and go to God for forgiveness. And so....is that all you got!.. What's your point?..nothing new about Newt's history in that respect...and Clinton's not running...Next!

Oh and just bring you up to date....Today, Newt and Callista have a very strong marriage. So trying to delegitimize Newt Gingrich by pointing out that he had admitted to having an extramarital affair during the impeachment of President Bill Clinton. Is fruitless...

What your ignoring is that the impeachment proceedings against President Clinton were due to the fact that ‘the president committed perjury’ in front of a sitting federal judge, which is ‘a felony’.

In my opinion Newt was looking for love in all the wrong places...I think he's found it now...and it isn't in any of these woman.

” I sense he’s even willing to sacrifice his run to smoke these rats out throughout this primary...if it takes that..... “ <<<

How glorious to exhibit such sacrifice if you are right. Long time coming since we have seen goodness behind sacrificial courage, while slathered in both competence and intellgence.

“If Nancy wants to do the same for the Obama and the Senate, bring it on....”

YEEEESS!!!!

Above and beyond the sheer idiocy of her thinly veiled threat, and Newt’s magnificent comeback, can someone explain how it would take four people a year to go through “a thousand pages?” That two reams of paper! Nothing!

Thanks for posting that...made me laugh a proud laugh that finally someone's willing to stand up and give it back to them...in 'language' they completely understand and so does Newt and they know that... they are certainly going to take him quite seriously.

Unfortunately they will get more than nasty with Newt....unlike Palin, Cain and Perry....Newt knows their turf....the game will take a different course dealing with Newt...it has to because all Newt's "dirt" is nothing new...been out there for long and run by us already. What they will now "devise" in their evil minds to attempt to ruin Newt? .....I think they are going to call in all their cards on 'other people' to do the dirty work...to oppose Newt and dig at his past....from news pundits to any others who they have dirt on and will press them hard to go against their otherwise support of Newt...or else blow the dirt out there on them.

Nancy Pelosi is not the brightest bulb in the box.

Actually her "light bulb" went out long ago if there was any there to begin with....she simply stumbles thru what she's been armed with and repeats it enough to believe it's her own idea.... Rather like Romney comes across...only at least he can make a statement without all the drama.

It's been said...Pelosi and her husband have stolen more taxpayer money than most members of Congess have....I tend to think there's truth in that. Pelosi and her husband's decisions for her to remain in Congress have nothing to do with their burning desires for the american people...the position gave them access to the revenues and wealth they now have in their possession.

Perry's wealth has also come from the office he's held as Governor...they all use inside information to line their pockets.

Someday we might see politicians 'work' for the people...rather than take from them to build their own nests. But that's doubtful until the whole house of cards falls.

you say: “Wow four people spent a year going over 1,000 pages of his ‘stuff’. They must be some real sharp cookies to get through almost three pages a day. “

Yep - 75 charges, 1,000 pages and a year on our dime - nothing but a witch hunt.

There should be investigations and penalties for such witch hunts that are clearly politically motivated.

The results (after costing him $300,000)

And anti-Newt freepers will post that this was a scandal against Newt and that he just up and quit -

I remember back in ‘05 listening to Hannity while driving each day - he did a daily countdown to the ‘06 election and kept warning people, “do you want to see Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House??” Unfortunately, it came true. Despite what many may think of Sean, he always tries warning people well in advance of elections - he did the same thing for a good year before ‘08, about BHO’s radical connections, lack of vetting and background documents, etc.

What, you mean the fact that he was cleared of any wrong doing by the IRS. Boy, is that ever damning. Imagine being guilty of being absolved of any wrong doing . . . I see what you mean./rolleyes

Just because you hate Newt, isn't an excuse for lying about him. The only thing the House Ethics Committee could find wrong was the lawyer's letter to the committee, which contained wrong information, that Newt signed. That's it and that's a long way from your assertion by implication of "ethical lapses."

Wow four people spent a year going over 1,000 pages of his 'stuff'. They must be some real sharp cookies to get through almost three pages a day.

Well actually that is somewhat believable. IIRC the only thing that they got Newt on -- for all their accusations -- was his televised series put out through a conservative cable TV channel. Newt then promised not to engage in a defense of his "un-ethical" activity -- whereupon he got his cell phone intercepted & recorded, seemingly engaging in a violation of that very promise.

It was all so convoluted.
