Pelosi plans to reveal information about Gingrich 'when the time is right' By Alicia M. Cohn - 12/05/11 11:44 AM ET

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is holding back some information on Republican Newt Gingrich that could detract from his presidential campaign, according to a report published Monday.

“One of these days we’ll have a conversation about Newt Gingrich,” Pelosi told Talking Points Memo. “When the time is right. … I know a lot about him. I served on the investigative committee that investigated him, four of us locked in a room in an undisclosed location for a year. A thousand pages of his stuff.”

Gingrich, who served as Speaker of the House, worked with Pelosi in Congress from 1987 to 1999. Pelosi also served on the ethics committee that investigated Gingrich for tax cheating and campaign finance violations in the late ’90s.

Gingrich filmed an ad with then-House Speaker Pelosi in 2008 to urge action on climate change, which haunted him early in his presidential bid this year. Gingrich called the ad “probably the dumbest single thing I’ve done in recent years” last month.

Republicans in Congress have been slow to rally around Gingrich’s rise to front-runner status in the polls, with former GOP colleague Sen. Tom Coburn (Okla.) stating publicly over the weekend he is not “inclined to be a supporter” of Gingrich due to that past experience.

But Democrats such as the soon-to-retire Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) have suggested Gingrich as the GOP nominee would benefit the Democratic Party.

"He would be the best thing to happen to Democrats since Barry Goldwater," Frank said last week. Goldwater is credited with reviving Republican conservatism in the ’60s.

Pelosi told Talking Points Memo that Frank “spoke for a lot” of Democrats. “I like Barney Frank’s quote the best, where he said ‘I never thought I’d live such a good life that I would see Newt Gingrich be the nominee of the Republican party,’ ” she said.

And Rep. James Clyburn (D-S.C.), who also served in Congress with Gingrich and now holds a position of power as assistant minority leader in the House, charged Gingrich on Monday with lacking the temperament to be president.

“He tends to fly off the handle. He will say almost anything in order to get a charge. I’m sure that he’s not serious when he says a lot of these things,” Clyburn said on MSNBC.

Really? So unless one is married in THE CATHOLIC CHURCH, Catholics don’t considered you married at all?

Quite the opposite. That is why so many people seek annulments before entering the Church. If what you say here were true then Newt wouldn't have needed one. If, however, two Christians were married then, in the eyes of the Church, their marriage would be assumed to be valid and so any problems must be assessed before any other sacraments are received. For instance, if a person wants to be Catholic and they have divorced and remarried they have a problem. The Church does not recognize divorce and so they are technically still married to the first person. The only way they can be Catholic and continue in their current marriage is if the first happens to have been invalid due to some question of matter or form. Perhaps they were too young, or maybe their first spouse was also their first cousin, or something like that.

Unfortunately many annulments are now automatic and seem based on nothing, making them nothing more than Catholic divorces. But this is just an abuse and doesn't really negate the value of the definition of Christian marriage or the necessity of proper form and matter. The actual concept just recognizes that not all marriages are valid from the start and so admits that a sacramental union was never actually in existence.

Newt’s got plenty of ammo to go after Nancy with, Nancy may not want to get into a pissing contest with Newt, if she knows what’s good for her.

My first thougt, as well. Nancy has to realize that for all the time that Nancy was in the House with Newt, Newt was in the House with Nancy - and in a more senior position. I'm sure he has the goods on her if it comes to that.

Check it out, pal. As far as MARRIAGE in the Church is concerned, that is correct.

Sorry, but Marriage is civil AND religious construct. The Church is only concerned about the religious. Marriages outside the Catholic Church ARE NOT considered religious marriages BY THE CHURCH of ROME.

Your smug and sanctimonius “The Catholic Church IS THE ONLY Church” attitude has been duly noted.

(Make sure you watch part two below) and you want to squabble over whether Palin would have been alinskyized too quit again? Logic prevails she would have been.It is a waste of time; the only reason I brought it up was because of the few comments in here thinking Palin could save us now. I am still waiting for the apologies from all those that called Bachmann and Perry RINO’s all in favor of Palin and are now Newt supporters. It makes no sense.Watch below.

Really Nancy? How about sharing what you know about Insider trading and selling firearms to mexico? We’de rather hear what you have to say concerning that!

Except that Nancy really has nothing to lose - she's not running for the presidency. She can spout all the trash she wants (and knowing Newt's past - there is probably plenty for her to get the shovel out for).

“”four of us locked in a room in an undisclosed location for a year””

Our fondest dream - to see Pelosi locked up for a year.
Does that room still exist? We can dream, can’t we?

"Pelosi also served on the ethics committee that investigated Gingrich for tax cheating and campaign finance violations in the late ’90s."

From what I've heard and been told she can not by law talk about anything that was discussed in a ethics hearing. I hope she blabs and Newt brings charges against her.

I am afraid you are overstating the situation. The Catholic Church does in fact recognize the marriages of Protestants and other Christians, and this is exactly why annulments are sought by people coming into the Church. If such marriages were not seen as binding by the Church there would be no problem at all, but they are and so must be addressed when there have been divorces and remarriages. The only such marriages which the Church doesn't recognize are those which actually have been annulled, so to speak, and this was because they lacked something in matter or form, not because they were performed outside of the Church.

It’s time for Sarah to get back in the race. She’s already had her life and background fully exposed and there’s no there there.

I'll second that motion. Palin is the only potential late entry candidate I can think of, who's got the 'full package', and can galvanize the majority of center-right voters under one tent.

And as you said, she's already had her closets inspected.

Thank you cothrige. To be sure my catechism could use some work. Unfortunately that is the case with a large percentage of all Catholics. Particularly cradle Catholics.

I do not excuse Gingrich for being a bad husband, we are all lacking in perfection. Yet to hear some talk , you would think he strangled his former wives and buried them in the back yard.

I absolutely agree. The thing which makes me most sad in all of this is not that I may or may not support Newt, but that he is being treated with less esteem than seems to be given to liberals. We can see this when people say things like rather than voting for him they would not vote at all, which is of course saying that what we have now is actually better. Can any conservative, of even the meanest kind, prefer Obama to any of the current GOP candidates? Such hyperbole does nobody any good at all and only helps the real enemy who is most certainly not Newt. I will take a less than perfect husband with at least some conservative ideals over Obama any day.
