Pelosi plans to reveal information about Gingrich 'when the time is right' By Alicia M. Cohn - 12/05/11 11:44 AM ET

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is holding back some information on Republican Newt Gingrich that could detract from his presidential campaign, according to a report published Monday.

“One of these days we’ll have a conversation about Newt Gingrich,” Pelosi told Talking Points Memo. “When the time is right. … I know a lot about him. I served on the investigative committee that investigated him, four of us locked in a room in an undisclosed location for a year. A thousand pages of his stuff.”

Gingrich, who served as Speaker of the House, worked with Pelosi in Congress from 1987 to 1999. Pelosi also served on the ethics committee that investigated Gingrich for tax cheating and campaign finance violations in the late ’90s.

Gingrich filmed an ad with then-House Speaker Pelosi in 2008 to urge action on climate change, which haunted him early in his presidential bid this year. Gingrich called the ad “probably the dumbest single thing I’ve done in recent years” last month.

Republicans in Congress have been slow to rally around Gingrich’s rise to front-runner status in the polls, with former GOP colleague Sen. Tom Coburn (Okla.) stating publicly over the weekend he is not “inclined to be a supporter” of Gingrich due to that past experience.

But Democrats such as the soon-to-retire Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) have suggested Gingrich as the GOP nominee would benefit the Democratic Party.

"He would be the best thing to happen to Democrats since Barry Goldwater," Frank said last week. Goldwater is credited with reviving Republican conservatism in the ’60s.

Pelosi told Talking Points Memo that Frank “spoke for a lot” of Democrats. “I like Barney Frank’s quote the best, where he said ‘I never thought I’d live such a good life that I would see Newt Gingrich be the nominee of the Republican party,’ ” she said.

And Rep. James Clyburn (D-S.C.), who also served in Congress with Gingrich and now holds a position of power as assistant minority leader in the House, charged Gingrich on Monday with lacking the temperament to be president.

“He tends to fly off the handle. He will say almost anything in order to get a charge. I’m sure that he’s not serious when he says a lot of these things,” Clyburn said on MSNBC.

And we all know how America just loves Pelosi...the only place she could win an election is in California. The same Pelosi who rammed O’care down our throats and said, “pay or go to jail”.

Gingrich can get his talking points out alright. That doesn’t mean people will vote for him.

And he sat on the global warming couch with her. This is a war folks. Time for Republicans to start battling back. Darrel Issa needs to step it up on his investigations; and it is time to clean house.

If the Dems want to keep throwing mud, we may have no choice but to battle back and defeat them for good. If she’s going to release stuff on Newt, it’s time to release everything on all the Dem big whigs over the past 30 years.

I think Pelosi should revel what she has during a Lincoln/Douglas debate with Newt. What say you, chick squawk Nancy?

“I love people who dream. It may backfire for us republicans but it certainly works pretty well for the democrats. Hilary, Cain, Sarah and so on and so on...wake up”

I dont think it was the negative campaigning that stopped hillary, it was the fact that she and her campaign felt they were entitled to win the election, so coasted even before one vote was cast. Kind of like Romney today.

Cain & Palin, both of whom I like personally, were done in as much by themselves as by the media. Cain could barely even answer questions about 9-9-9, usually telling people they were comparing apples and oranges or to check his website. Palin, had 2 months to show the American people that she had the experience and knowledge to potentially be President of the US (one heartbeat away after all) and unfortunately her (or more accurately, McCain’s) consultants over consulted her so she looked very unsure of herself and often a deer in headlights.

Like the behavior of a stock, a candidate’s future is derived from expectations. When something happens to make someone say “hey, I’m surprised by this, this doesnt sound like a candidate I would want to voter for at all” that is when a candidate is in trouble. What exactly can be so surprising about Newt’s past to get anyone to say that? People know he has a checkered past. Also it helps that he has asked forgiveness from the Lord. I think people will be willing to look past his past sins due to that. Now if you find out he has been having an affair with a staffer in his current campaign, now that could do him in.

Gingrich’s only ideas are cap and trade and single payer healthcare. He will do what Pelosi and Reid tell him to do.

Newt’s baggage as compared to Obama or Pelosi is the equivalent of a small overnight case. Lets go after Obama and Pelosi and Schumer. Time to take control of the senate and increase our hold on congress. Like America...united we stand or divided we fall..same is true for the republican party. Obama has to go. Pelosi wants her gavel back.

Well, there's always a chance you are right. But I think it's a very small one. I think Obama will not fare well against someone who is willing and able to honestly confront him and answer his idiocies.

As is often pointed out, there is no perfect conservative. But I do think Newt can win the election, and I do think he well do the right thing as President more often than not.

Just in case anyone in the country was wondering *which political party always takes the low road, and has been doing so throughout the primary season*.

Thanks Sub-Driver.

Well, since he was under formal investigation when she obtained this top-secret information, and they were unsuccessfully digging for things to charge him with and even what they “got” was found without merit, I guess this information must be stuff like his favorite brand of toilet paper or something.
