Cains exit yesterday was a wholly absurd spectacle. His suspended campaign is presumably still sitting on millions of dollars of contributions. Cain owes it to his supporters to endeavor to return that money to all those people who gave it to him in good faith..
Rich, grow up!
Which unsuccessful candidate has ever given campaign cash back?
McCain didn’t have to issue refunds, because he used the leftover money to hammer JD Hayworth 24/7 with a white-hot intensity that he never used when campaigning against Obama.
You just nailed it!
When is Obama going to give back all his illegal 2008 contributions to the foreign sources that sent those contributions to his campaign, in direct violation of U.S. law?
Oh, that’s right.....only conservatives have to follow the law.
To add to that, National Review was the first to endorse McCain during his primary battle with Hayworth. Remember how tough McCain was on immigration during his election? Lo and behold, today McCain is advocating for Republicans to go the amnesty route yet again. Do the voters of Arizona have any memory at all?
Asshat. Up against a collectivist commie he pulls his punches and basically endorses the guy. Only against a conservative does he fight like there’s something to lose (and does so using funds contributed to beat a collectivist). He ought to be sent back to the North Vietnamese.
He'd still be in the race if the modus operandi of state-controlled media wasn't character-assassination.
You got what you wanted. Now sit down and STFU.
National Review just wants to be admired by the New York Times, Washington Post, and Politico. There is no conservative media outlet that nit picks all conservative human beings more than National Review, while they always try to find something nice to say about history’s greatest liberals and statist (aka Ted Kennedy, Obama).
Remember Obama’s pep rally in Tuscon, AZ, after Giffords was shot earlier this year? Rich Lowry was quick to chime in on what a great and healing speech Obama gave. Strangely enought, Lowry doesn’t crank out a whole lot of literary for his magazine, but he always finds time to poke his head up to throw grenades at conservatives and flowers at liberals.
He should give the money back. Cain misled a lot of people and I know there are people here on FR who don’t have a lot of money and gave it all to Cain because they believed his pitch.
The only thing I can say in Cain’s defense is something another Freeper said: Cain was an accidental candidate. He really ran just as a kind of publicity stunt, since his whole life is publicity and personality, and was probably even surprised himself when he was seized upon by an electorate desperately looking for their “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington” candidate, that is, somebody with no experience in DC (Cain’s stint as a DC lobbyist didn’t seem to bother them).
But he knew his past, he knew what was out there, and if he was so dumb he never thought this was going to come up, he was too dumb to be a candidate anyway. What his mistress said, “Herman Cain loves Herman Cain,” is unfortunately correct, and I think the publicity stunt got out of control and he really didn’t know how to turn it off and also hoped that somehow, like Bill Clinton, he could just lie his way through it. That’s not a winning strategy; it wasn’t even a winner for Bill Clinton.
So yes, if he’s a decent man, as his donors thought he was, he should give their money back.
I see you’re just taking the narratives that some people have thought up over the last month and you think they are actually facts.

Fact.
I donated $150 when Cain took off, as an aurographed book purchase. Six weeks later, they were emailing to apologize, and offering my money Back. The day it became apparent he was going to pull out, I accepted their refund offer. I also asked for a refund on the smaller donation to get a yard sign and bumper sticker package.
Hate me for it, but if you order merchandise that you never receive you can get a refund.
This is what Lowry is worried about?
Sure makes you wonder where McPain got the ‘you have nothing to fear’ bullshit from?
That’s how far the Commies have come with America. They presented us both Rat and RINO candidates last cycle.
Yes, where did Rich come up with this absurd idea? And how paternalistic — as if the people who made contributions to Cain were not grown-ups who understood the situation of supporting a candidate that was just becoming known.
This is part of politics.
Rich Lowry is a girly boy...National Review was a good magazine when Buckley ran it, now it has been run into the ground by the likes of Lowry...Subscribed to it for years...quit my subscription of American spectator when it went nasty on Bush prior to the elections....glad we have Free Republic...
Lowry obviously wanted to generate Cocktail Party/Beltway chatter about him and his Great Idea. He really is a wimp.
AZ is among many states in which the voters are so clueless as to be useless.
I guess it would make fund raising easier if there were a money back guarantee if they don’t win.
But, truth be told, giving money to support any person running for office is like dropping money on a horse race. You might win...or you might lose. Go to the window and request a refund ‘cause your horse lost...they will laugh you off of the track.
So before anyone asks...yes I have donated money to the person of my choice. Sometimes well spent..sometimes not.
