Spent last week in Townsend TN. Lots of real nice folks there and everyone I met had all their teeth. Stereotypes for the area seem undeserved.

Urban yankees hate rural Southern folk. Bottom line.

Went to Asheville NC to gauge weapons for a local reserve unit deploying to Iraq. What I saw downtown was unbelievable and what made it strange in addition to the freaky street people was the abundance of head shops, funky art galleries, and restaurants featuring anything but European food. Like Haight-Ashbury 1967.

The unit first sergeant was an Asheville native. When I told him what I saw off duty he said, “This used to be a decent place to live.”

I'd say there are more sodomites in just about any town in New England than there are in all of southern Appalachia. New England is the 'gay marriage capitol of America', after all... :-(
