Republican Newt Gingrich credited his wife and blind persistence for pulling his campaign back from the brink of disaster in the 2012 race. But an expert suggests circumstance really controls his newfound fame.
Gingrich praised his third wife Callista, whom he said pieced his campaign back together after key staffers quit and media allegations crashed it, and his own persistence for his new lead in Politicos eBook The Right Fights Back, released Wednesday.
Callista, he said, dug into the campaign, becoming a very good surrogate. Gingrich said he too dug deeper into the GOP presidential nominee race, refusing to acknowledge that the campaign was failing.
I was the only guy in the room who didnt know I was dead, he said in the book.
News polls show Gingrich surging ahead of October front-runner Herman Cain and experienced contender Mitt Romney. The former speaker leads Romney by as much as 4 percent in CNN/ Opinion Research and Quinnipiac polls a far cry from his standing in July when he barely garnered 5 percent of support in the polls.

N.C. State University Political Science Professor Andrew Taylor argues that all Gingrich may have really done was successfully benefited from the political mishaps of others.
I think a great deal of what has helped was sort of the rise and falls and sort of failings of some his competitors, he told The Christian Post.

Gingrich said he ignored advisers who suggested his younger third wife, whom he met during an extramarital affair, should not be so close to the campaign. Now he said she has become as integral to him as Nancy Reagan was to Ronald Reagan.

It’s not the only thing they call us, but it’s certainly among the many accusations they hurl our way.
I think the dumbest decision maker in this situation was the 26 year old teacher marrying her 19 year old student. She should have known better. I don’t see him as an equal in this instance.
Yep!
http://www.wargs.com/political/gingrich.html He is a natural born citizen
If you read that, it’s Maryanne telling that story. She is likely telling it to her advantage. I still say we don’t know the inside of any of his marriages and we should leave that between them and God, and choose the person who can rid us of Obama.
You see, I can’t do anything about his marriages of years ago - but I think he can rid us of Obama and save the country from destruction - maybe God would approve of that.
I’ll bet most freepers don’t know that Nancy Reagan was pregnant when she and Ronnie got married. She was a fine first lady. I don’t think Callista Gingrich will shame the American public. After Moochelle Callista will be a breath of fresh air. At least we won’t have to endure watching her fist pump on nomination night.
Destruction is destruction. I guess if it makes you feel better that it was destroyed by someone you voted for instead of the person you voted against than go for it. Personally, I think such short term thinking is counterproductive.
Not the best choice of words, there. I should hope not.
“slut (sl t) n. 1. a. A person, especially a woman, considered sexually promiscuous.”
“Promiscuous” means sleeping around with numerous men. So, don’t think you can call her a slut unless you come up with a list of different men. Okay?
“When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more”
I love all these “Christians” who ignore the plain message of Jesus concerning forgiveness.
What else are you supposed to call it? Then again, if he was giving her this money behind his wife’s back and not getting sex, he is not fit to be president b/c he wastes money.
“I’ve ‘made payments’ to the local Salvation Army over the last 30 years, and didn’t clear it with the Mrs., does that mean we’re having an affair?”
I always suspected you having an affair with the entire Salvation Army and paying them off to keep them quiet. :)
Do you even know the context of the story you quoted? The woman was going to be stoned. The man she was taken in adultery w had evidently been let off the hook, but the woman’s accusers told Jesus that according to the law she should be stoned. To suggest that calling a spade a spade where Calista’s adultery is concerned is concomitantly calling for her to be stoned is just vile. Shame on you.
I do not disagree with you. But, I never had any desire to have an out of class relationship with any of my high school teachers (none of they were that hot any way). I doubt you did either.
As I said before, Newt is a brilliant man who does some incredibly stupid things (like having an affair while he is trying to get Clinton impeached, the couch shot, endorsing Dede, referring to Ryan’s plan as “right wing social engineering.”
Well technically she fits the most commonly used definition of a “home-wrecker”. But you got so freaked out over that term I substituted ‘slut’. I’m fine w returning to my original term, home-wrecker. Newt was married and she screwed around w him. That is the classic definition of a home-wrecker.
You are so prickly. What do you want her called, an angel? I’m not judging her. I’m commenting on what in fact she actually did. There is no white washing it. She committed adultery w a married man. Live w it.
How about this description?
In the meantime, not only do I believe in innocent until proven guilty, but the die has been cast. The Chicago Way is to eliminate all opposition, and Cain still has a formidable resume compared to Barry the Usurper.
There have been a few false accusers who came forth, and I'm seeing the same basic pattern:
They can't manage money
They can't keep a job
They are getting evicted (again)
They lost a libel suit or made false claims of harrassment.
These things all say these people have problems, problems which are deeply rooted in their lifestyle/personality/or behaviour, and may be related to substance abuse of some sort or another compulsive behaviour.
Not exactly the sort of people I see a man who achieves well in any venue becoming 'romatically' entangled with, really--not when he has a functional family at home.
People who are highly functional seldom have much tolerance for disfunction in their inner circle, it is too counterproductive.
While they may seek to help the disfunctional with a little cash, some groceries for the kids, Christmas presents for the children, etc., all too often that help ends up being subverted and diverted to further substance abuse or other disfunction.
Often these people are quite convincing in telling how they are getting their life together, how they just need a little help to get past some 'bad luck', how little johnny needs this or little suzie needs that, and they can continue to wheedle small amounts from benefactors for a long time.
That is more a comment on the good nature of the person being taken advantage of, rather than an indictment of impropriety, and often is done for the benefit of the children more than the parent.
I have seen this dynamic in action, and serious involvement is seldom beneficial to the 'user'--it exposes the levels of disfunction and the long term nature thereof to a degree the benefactor will cease to be one.
Usually the reaction after that is to badmouth the person who has been good to them, in a sort of sour grapes reaction to the rejection.
A child predator is someone who RAPES CHILDREN. Not someone who marries a 34 year old woman. You're not very good at analogies, are you?
Sudden rise in what?
